Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dissapointments of this generation

What the hell is this? DMC4 was great...it dissapointed everyone cause it didn't suck?

I can't speak for LO but reviews are pretty high for that game...so it may be a commercial dissapointment but surely isnt a critical one.

Like some games belong on that list, Haze by the looks of things, MK should be in top 10 considering how average it is and how great the old ones used to be...What about Sonic the hedgehog ps360?

I thought the list was flawed. Some games belonged on there. Others didn't, Mario Kart Wii a disappointment? Tell that to the 3+ million people that purchased copies and are addicted to online play which is a new feature.

This list is bogus. There are other games that should be on that list. I love the way Haze made it on to the list not even being on store shelves one week.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

Blue Dragon launch week increased Xbox 360 sales by: +748%. The actual number: 38k. (81k copies of Blue Dragon) (It had sold around 4.5k last week)

Next week it had dropped down to half, and it was Christmas time.

When you're hoping for market penetration, +748% says awesome, but the actual number does not. Perhaps that's the failure.

Also, if it were just about money, Mario Kart nor Assassins Creed would be on there.

And lost odyssey? It's the first JRPG to do decent numbers on the Xbox 360 in the West? Not to mention it has certainly been profitable given its numbers.

Which numbers?

It's sold 660k, how do you deduce profitability from that?

The revenue is 39.6 million.

Well we generally consider that an HD game needs to sell half a million to be profitable.  This game has sold considerably more, and was built with the Unreal Engine 3...............meaning it was 'relatively' cheap.

Disappointments:
Lair

Heavenly Sword (Tilted as the Goddess of War for next gen, hardly)

GTA4 (Yep, I was disappointed, particularly multiplayer which felt like they worked out really cool concepts but didn't bother to make them fun)

Blue Dragon: I was expecting more from the father of FF and with 3 DVD's i thought there'd be alot more graphical polish, it honestly looked like it could be played on a PS2.

Sixaxis: so you shaved off the bottom of the controller so that it could include triggers, way to go sony, you made bearably small controller into a nightmare for those with regular to large size hands.

Lack of innovation on the Wii: Before you start throwing stones, I'm talking about the games. Aside from a few choice titles, hardly any developers are pushing the boundaries of what the Wii control scheme can really do, you'd think that nearly perfecting it with MP3, 3rd party devs would realise the potential the wiimote and nunchuck has, but instead they've left it to point and click this, waggle that.

Blue Dragon wasn't that bad, it got something like 37/40 from Famitsu and in Japan it even has an anime show or something.

It's a very traditional jprg and sold about 80000 copies in Japan in it's first four days.
I wouldn't call it a failure, i look at it as another addition to the rpg list on 360.

I knew that Lair, Blue dragon and assasin's creed were dissapointments. But not Mario Kart wii (who the only ones that complaint are hardcore fanboys) and Devil May cry 4....personally I haven't played any of those games so far.

...do you agree with that list?

I guess you'd consider Mario Kart Wii a disappointment in terms of review scores, but if you actually played it I don't see how you could possibly be disappointed.  It's the best Mario Kart game so far, no question, and it's so, so much fun.  It's why my brand new Xbox 360 and 10 games for it are all sitting idle.

Also, their synopsis is wrong.  Mario Kart Wii requires more driving skill than any previous games.  Drifting can only happen when you are at or near maximum speed, there are huge penalties for leaving the main path (which now breaks your drift), attacks including red shells are much less effective, and you recover faster from attacks like the blue shell.  Power ups, like stars, are also much less effective.

Halo 3, was more of the same Halo 2 Ive played with the xbox, ecept for some minor changes, didnt live up to the hype imo.
