Apparently mr Riley (our favourite NPD marketing manager) can't afford me the same level of professionalism:

I was waiting for that. I have some VERY interesting insight that I'll be sharing with all of you soon. He had best check himself before he wrecks himself. Yeah, I'm going there. Oh, trust me, I WILL go there.

I'm all checked!

It's very unusual that the lone guy running a free business is acting more professional than the corporate industry standard but at least he didn't trash you in an NPD press release, just a post on GAF.

Is that actually him? I thought his name was driley on neogaf.

He probably just bets on his own data and like any sensible organization - including Microsoft, Sony, and Gamestop - expected hardware sales to increase as those three reported independently for the GTA launch week.

When it didn't I bet he lost alot of money

IOI, is there any cahnce that NPD just couldn't make sence of the GTA launch week HW numbers and just decided to leave them out until May? I mean these number would make sence if they were the previous weeks numbers. I mean c'mon the month of the biggest game of the year and MS and Sony sell less than 50k a week when both had been selling above that all year. it makes no sence, and anyone with an open mind can seee that.

After reading this, I saw it as a possibility. figuring out all different SKU's and inclusions of bundles can be timeconsuming, untill I read this interview:

"BIZ: With all the talk about GTA IV driving increased sales of PS3 and 360 hardware, I was surprised to see both systems under 200K, while the Wii (sans GTA) just blew them out of the water. What happened?

Frazier: If there was one thing that surprised me about the sales results, this would be it. I had expected greater hardware sales for both platforms as well, and my hunch is that with only 5 days of GTA IV sales captured in this data set, we may see that lift when the May data is released. It could be that many of those that went to buy the game in its first 5 days at retail were already owners of one or both of the systems and that down the road game sales may spur hardware sales."

So yeah they did include those 5 days but they do not exclude the possibility of higher sales in the march review.

Edit: Sorry was so busy reading, didn't notice this already being posted...

What?? It's not my opinion that nintendo have released no new AAA or AA hardcore ip's on the wii it's a fact. The other fact is comparing the wii's line up to the gamecubes line up of games their is very little difference between the two. Last gen the gamecube finished 3rd and most people agreed that was because the software wasn't good enough. This generation the wii is dominating and the only difference in software is wii sports, wii play and wii fit, all of which are casual games that have scored badly and hardcore gamers generally don't like them. The wii sells the most because it is the most popular console not because it is the best.

I'm curious as to how classifying games as casual and writing reviews of them based on opinion is a "fact."

Anyway, now your talking about Nintendo software development, not the Wii as a piece of hardware.

3rd parties have released AAA hardcore titles on the Wii, like Zack and Wiki, and No Heroes.

Just keep your facts to yourself, if you feel like presenting an argument from now on, give us your opinions and we'll respect them, but don't act like we're dumb for not agreeing with you.

No i haven't changed the subject at all, a poster was trying to claim that nintendo can't be critised for releasing the same old games when sony and mircosoft are just as bad, i posted all the new aaa and aa new ip's sony and microsoft have released this gen that disprove that. Now your changing the subject to third parties releasing new aaa and aa games on the wii and really bringing up that point is so stupid when the amount of new aaa and aa 3rd party games released on the 360 and ps3 crush the wii. Reviews are an indication of how good a game is but since wii games generally review poorly im guessing your one of these people who don't care about reviews. I'll say it again, just because something is the most popular thing doesnt make it the best.

I'll make it easier for you cookingdude, Nintendo speaks volumes of what the customer wants. If Sony or MS were offering what the customer wants then they'd be outselling the Wii. Guess what? They are not, so what you buy doesn't mean that's what we want. The Wii is not hardcore theory is getting more boring with each day and I'm glad they are smacking both Sony and MS. So there, you lose

What are you looking at, nerd?

Has NPD come in yet? Can someone re-post here for me as the Wii browser won't display full forum pages.

Ok, so I see he's changed his name. In this thread it's the same poster "theguy" as you linked in thequote, but in the posts quoting him the name is "driley".

driley = theguy

I was waiting for that. I have some VERY interesting insight that I'll be sharing with all of you soon. He had best check himself before he wrecks himself. Yeah, I'm going there. Oh, trust me, I WILL go there.

lol, WTF? Seriously that guy's an idiot, I remember he threatened pcvsconsole forum with legal action unless they removed the NPD thread, which had links to actual new sites with the data on. Fortunately the poster basically told him to sue him.

What is there to expand on? Both other companies will copy what Nintendo did next generation, they won't push the hardware much to keep the price low and their main focus will be casual and/or family friendly fare.

I realize you're banned and can't respond but ...

I don't think that it is realistic to expect Sony and Microsoft to completely copy Nintendo's approach with this generation, and for developers and publishers to react towards their systems as they have with the Wii today. I do expect less expensive systems with more modest hardware; this isn't to say that the next generation will be taken to the extreme that the Wii was, and I believe Sony and Microsoft will aim for the most powerful (reliable) hardware that can be manufactured and sold for (roughly) $300 without taking massive losses. I do expect a move towards Wiimote-like controllers, but I expect that they will be improved in order to fix most of the Wiimote's limitations and to be more effective in core-gamer genres.

well, video games had a good run. *sarcasm*???

Lets just hope sony/microsoft keeps doing what they are doing and not trying to copy the Wii.

I think both sony and microsoft overestimated the knowledge of the average gamer, most of them are like sheep and buy everything that is popular.
