Forums - Sony Discussion - Best JRPG's on PS2 (Non Final Fantasy)

Wild Arms 3/4/5 have their moments of excellence, and can generally be found for 10-20 bucks.

And thought SNES contains some of the best, the PS2 was in no way shape or form a weak RPG console.

I also rather enjoy Digital Devil Saga1/2, but those games will eat you. Bad joke.

Oh yeah, i'd definitly put it #2 all time.  PS1 #3.

I'm obviously not with the incrowd, what with this Persona, Xenosaga, Suikoden, etc. stuff. I never touched any of it (because I've never even heard of them... and yes, being the young little piss-ass I am, I've been blinded with Final Fantasy... >_>).
But, I'm not even sure if this game counts as a JRPG (because it's mostly action, although people tried to count Kingdom Hearts...) but what about Dark Cloud 2?

Dark Cloud 2 rocked my fucking world. I spent a straight year-and-a-half on it.

Sony will prevail. My 60 gig says so.

PlayStation 3 Games:

- Rock Band
- Rock Band 2
- Soulcalibur IV
- LittleBigPlanet
- Guitar Hero: World Tour

1. Dragon Quest VIII
2. Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
3. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
4. Radiata Stories
5. Xenosaga 1-3

All those games are awesome.

Suikoden V and III were my personal faves. I loved getting all 108 characters and being able to have 6 person parties plus a few stat boosting characters. Not to mention the great stories.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

definetely not

Chrono Trigger & FF6 disagree

ps1 is the greatest. end of story.

CC and FF6 (though not as good as the originals) was already on PSX. Add FF7, Xenogears, Vagrant story and Chrono Cross and you can forgetaboutit....

But then again ckmlb has a point since PSX games can be played on the PS2. So technically the 60gb PS3 is the best RPG console!

Eh, i don't know. Personally i'm not sure i'm willing to count BC. Aside from which the CT port sucked. If you counted ports i'd say PS1 and SNES were close

bud I'd still say SNES which had a lot of solid RPGs as well, along with Earthbound an RPG I really think deserves to be up there in the conversations of great RPGs of all time.

Of course I also thought FF7, Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story all sucked and gave all three games away.

What was so bad with the port? That was the only version I played and I loved it. From what I remember, the major differences were the addition of anime cut scenes and slight delay/load time for battles.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

Here, this will tell you what you need to know about these games. I can't recommend them enough, if you like JRPGs, you HAVE to play them. Afterall, everyone of them is at least equal, and in some cases, betterm that most Final Fantasies

The sound quality was way worse... and if i remember correctly for some reason the colors were more dull.  Also it didn't run as smoothly.

I mean, it's still good.  Just not as good as the SNES copy... which my friend has.  Reminds me I need to play FF4 again.  It's actually superior to it's SNES version due to the addition of things cut out.

- Persona 3 FES
- Dragon Quest VIII
- Kingdom Hearts
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Shin Megami Tensei: Nocture (hard to find and expensive, but definitely worth it.)

Aha! caught you red handed with a contradiction!

And yes, CC on PSX was not as good as the SNES except for the anime cutscenes. The loading times were also annoying on many of the PSX-SNES ports. But, as you said, it's still good and there's still many RPGs on the PS2/ PSX that's not listed which makes the PS3 60gb the best RPG console of all tyme! If not the PS3 60gb then the PS2.
