Gore Verbinski to direct BioShock film
Universal bringing the videogame to the silver screen.
Variety has broken the news that the BioShock flick we've long heard rumours about is official. Universal Studios and BioShock developer Take-Two have signed a deal to turn the popular game into a film.

The big news is also that Pirates of the Caribbean and The Ring director, Gore Verbinski, has been attached to direct and produce the film. John Logan, who scripted The Last Samurai, The Aviator, and most recently, Sweeny Todd is also in talks to pen the screenplay.

Variety claims that it is "believed to be the biggest videogame-to-movie deal since 2005," when the since-aborted Halo project began. However, given the fate of that film, Take-Two executive chairman Strauss Zelnick said he had ensured that the deal was structured so BioShock won't end up with a similar fate: "The reason I structured it the way I did is to make sure it gets made."

I hope it turns out well. I've owned Bioshock since launch I just haven't been able to get into it. I'm trying to go through the game now. Its well made but it just doesn't seem to be my cup of tea.

It would make even more sense that this game will come to ps3 now after hearing this news. More publicity and fans ya know. What do you think sc?

hopefully they won't screw it up, like every other video game movie ever made. looking forward to this, Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid. All have wonderful potential.

 i don't know. its universal making it which is owned by NBC and NBC and MS have very close ties.

You got a point there but NBC always plays those, "Hi, im a mac" commersials.

 Oh, come on.  Do you really think that porting the game to the PS3 would have any actual impact on its cinematic success whatsoever?  There is no basis for that at all.

 As for the movie, I hope it turns out well.  Playing through the game on PC I have to say that it is one of the most brilliant pieces of storytelling I've had the pleasure of experiencing in some time.  If they nail the atmosphere it will really be something else, I can't wait.
