Forums - Gaming Discussion - Official anti-GTA4 thread of overrating, shallowness and overuse of reality

Join the club right here folks, this is the anti-GTA4 thread. You hereby state to have never played the game (or have) yet have a constructive arguments as to why this is probably already the most overrated game ever created.

Here are my first points, you can judge and/or adjust them.

Why no game is perfect.

Nothing is perfect in this world. Not humans, not robots, not cellphones, not even movies (music in my opinion comes the closest to perfection). So why are game reviewers rating it as something perfect? Isn't perfection a synonym for groundbreaking? If so, what is so groundbreaking about a sequel? Sure there are dozens of new things and expanded missions/goals added to the game, but the core elements still exist. This solid series of games have taken over the masses as a product everybody wants. Not because it's extremely fun or groundbreaking, but because it comes close to reality (explains why The Sims is a best seller as well). People like replaying reality, playing the bad guy, but mainly because you are the centerpoint of attention.

People are missing the true goal of gaming : F.U.N

Back in the early days when games were still about fun and not about graphics, people agreed on the fact the mario games were groundbreaking. A lot of developers tried to copy the core elements, but often failed in making it a succesfull thing. Exceptions are developers like Sega who turned Sonic into a second phenomenon. Nevertheless, it was all about fun. in fact, people played (and are still playing) games to ESCAPE reality. So why do we want to play reality now, aren't developers nowadays missing the whole point?

I'll add more as soon as i get back from work. Feel free to post trollish and/or constructive things.

My one major qualm with the game so far is it is too realistic and too cluttered. It's like Rockstar put too much in the game and tried to make it too real.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

1/ why dont u create such thread for SMG or Zelda ?
They also get amazingly high review score by their time.

whatever, I agree, 10/10 is too high.

2/ GTA4 is fun according to MILLIONS of gamers (just wait sales datas)

I m not sure WW SMG sales can beat GTA4 WEEK1 WW sales datas ...

No zelda game except for OOT is in most people's view groundbreaking. That's why it gets SOLID reviews, not perfect, which is fine.

SMG is for one thing in fact, groundbreaking. It uses alot of new platform elements such as the use of gravity (perhaps overuse, but wth), and it is made by a genious, the man that kept this whole industry alive, so that's why it deserves these scores.

So your definition of fun are bright graphics and having a small pixel guy on the screen jump on small pixel turtles?
My definition of fun is to use a mouse cursor to control small pixel Protoss armies on the screen eradicating small pixel zerg armies.
And 15 million people seem to have fun driving around in a beautiful city crashing cars and shooting people.

Why should your definition of fun be the one that counts? Being fun is a highly objective measure. Games were simple back then because the technology didn't allow more complex games. Because of that Jump&Runs were popular not because they somehow have an inherent "funniness".

GTA is not about the best graphics its about a great story, a living open world, dark tarrantino like humour and about driving and shooting. A pretty awesome and FUN combination .

You and many others on this site sound like the old guy in the suburb muttering in his beard that things were better in the old times when kids still played on the street and food was rationed.

i think that we will see some real reviews when independent sites and magazines will get this game. right now we can read only advertises called "review before launch the game".

I've played about 2 hours into the game and i wouldn't call it the game perfect... but TBH, i don't think anyone has called this game perfect, a 10/10,5/5 or A+ doesn't have to mean it's perfection.

Another stupid thread from somebody who wants to be "against the trend".  You're KEWL neos.
