It all depends on what Microsoft does concerning the next Xbox, and how long Microsoft keeps the X360 afloat after the new one comes out.

For those taking history lessons, the Xbox was still selling somewhat decently when the 360 came out in the US. Sales dropped significantly, but they were still there. People were still wanting a $150 Xbox, as it was a good value. Unfortunately for Xbox sales, Microsoft cut off 100% of production of the Xbox in favor of the X360. Had they kept the production going, they could of sold more.

So ultimately, it's a question of what kind of lifespan the 360 has. There is plenty of life left for the 360. It's still $279 for the Arcade, and has plenty of price drops to go before one could say sales are going to take a significant hit.


IMO, it should get pretty close to 50m. I'd give it a 50/50 shot of breaking that number. 3 more years @ 8m/yr, would put it at 42m+, and could sell more if MS keeps it alive for a few more years.

If M$ won`t discontinue x360 in 2010 and release new x720, then
24-25 mln. by the end of 2008.
31-35 mln. by the end of 2009.
38-44 mln. by the end of 2010.
Unless x360 will gain after 199$ for premiuim price, it`s not very believable, that x360 will pass 7-8 mln. yearly sales on average for these 3 years.

Anyway, with 2011 and 2012 it has not very bad chances to reach 50 mln. afterall. =)

Given if it's life span is 5-7 years compared to the usual 4-5 console lifespan, it will not reach 50 million based on declining momentum for the console. Big guns already out. Price cut effects not enough to boost it to 50mil and its product cycle. It has reached it's biggest momentum and from now will be viewed as declining sales.

50 million, honestly, is a maximum unless something spectacular happens. I want them to do good, but it really doesn't look that way. 40 million however is a very possible number, and would be a blessing for Microsoft for just being in the console business for less than 10 years.

im picking another 10million for this year - 28million another 15 million for next year so 43million then the nextbox will come out and it will continue at 8 million a year.

BTW - Noone cares about FFX!!! - not in the real world anyway. Halo is 3x the brand that FF is, because it is a more mainstream brand. Not hardcore at all.
