Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Will XBox 360 reach 50 million?

yes
and one question - Does anyone else find it weird that there is a thread titled "will PS3 hit 100 million" and the 360 one is titled "Will the Xbox 360 hit 50 million?"?. Shouldn't it be the other way around considering the PS3 is still quite a bit beind the 360 in lifetime sales?
Just a thought.

The PS3 will definitely outsell the 360 in LTD sales due to the PS2 selling 120 million compared to the XBox selling only 24 million. That is like a ratio of 5 to 1 in favour of PS2 over the 360.

No, unless something huge happens in Japan. I think GTA4 will be the last game that pushes the sales in NA and Europe, after that the console will start it's decline in these markets also

Last generation has nothing to do with this one Rock_On_2008. Please put thought into your posts or things like that come out. I guess the PS3 will outsell the Wii considering the PS2 outsold the Gamecube over 5 to 1 right? Stupid post.

Lol at PS3 hitting 100 million, not going to happen, unless of course it's 2018 and it's the cheapest console on the market...

Anyway, I'd say the 360 won't hit 50 million, doubt MS would have projected that much when the console first came out.

I'd say realistically, you're looking at maybe 35-40 million.

Thats your opinion your entitled to it. Well a lot of PS2 owners will upgrade to the PS3 in time. The price of the PS3 has to be right and lots of PS2 owners will upgrade to the PS3. I guess around 50 to 60% of PS2 owners could upgrade to the PS3. Imagine if the PS3 was half the price of what it is today = More PS3 sales.

I reckon it will sell between 30-35 million. Maybe more. I also expect the PS3 to sell a minimum of 75 million.

It's not my opinion, it completely proves what you said to be wrong and very stupid.  You're going to base sales this generation off what happened in the last one and pretend the wii doesn't exist?  You make all these topics and hopefully when people see you make such a stupid post they will simply dismiss your threads in the future.  Sony will be lucky if they even manage to get 50% of the PS2's lifetime sales this generation with the PS3.  Nothing going on now is a trend from last generation, it's been completely different.  Use your head.

PS3 reaching 100 million might be stretching it, but it's a possibility. Considering how Sony has already reduced production costs in half and around August will reduce it even further in just over a year of its life. Still, in reference to the comment by dsoverpsp, the reason why it makes more sense for the PS3 to achieve 100 million and not 360 is because the PS3 is selling faster and better in the amount of time that it's been out than the 360, and that's with the hefty price tag. Sony is known to keep a long life to their systems, just look at the PS2 and the PS1 before that. The price will become reasonable and once quality titles flood the market, people will be more interested in it. While Microsoft has done leaps and bounds better than last gen's attempt, they've still much to prove and sales are slipping, that's why 50 million might be stretching it.

All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.

I don't think it will reach 50 million. I think it'll end up around 40 million.
