  • Switch Top 10 Software only sold 623.086 this year, last year the same week Software sold 886.223 obviously difficult to match Smash selling 424.127
  • Software would have been closer if Nintendo were able to ship more Ring Fit Adventure copies, 50K is well below what the game can sell at this time
  • Currently Switch needs to sell 772.425 in Week 52 to overcome last year's top 10
  • Last year the top 10 sold 547.909 during Week 52, this year it should be a stronger Week 52 - so it will be close
  • Ring Fit Adventure supply is most important factor for 2019 vs 2018, if it's 50K again 2019 Top 10 will end up below 2018.

Splatoon 2 is just outside the top 10 even though it's heading to the 3.3m mark in the region alone while BOTW continues its run.

Price point is really going to be the make or break point for the next gen consoles in Japan.

I smell Vita situation in the making for PS5 this time around.

I've been predicting Sony will completely loose Japan for a few years now. It looks very likely that PS4 will fail to match PS3's sales totals in the country, even with its much improved library, and large scale success globaly.

With the announcement that they will not be developing another Mobile PlayStation product going forward, I believe that will seal their fate in Japan. I expect PlayStation 5 to be even more suited to the US and EU markets, while Sony will begin to loose exclusivity and potentially even multiplatform support of some prominent Japanese titles. There is a very real possibility that PS5 could fail to even reach 5 Million units in Japan.

The sad thing about it is they have all the tech they need to make a PlayStation 5 Phone that could completely change their fate in Japan. Running an 8 Core/16 Thread Ryzen Mobile Chip and a Navi Mobile Chip, they could have complete unity across both Home and Mobile. With full access to the entire PlayStation catalog, I don't think it would be to far fetched to see them sell 15 - 20 Million or more PlayStation 5 Phones in Japan.

Unfortunately, it appears that Sony is playing an extremely dangerous game, betting the entire company on the success of PlayStation 5 alone. As successful as the PS4 has been, the PlayStation ecosystem has actually shrunk over the last 10 years. It is going to be very interesting times going forward.

The Og model is 12k ahead of last years ltd. The Switch lite has added about 950k, so everything indicates that it actually hasn‘t cannibalized OG Switch sales at all.

Comparing the Holliday sales only isn‘t really that meaningful, since we don‘t have anything resembling a Smash launch this year.

Slightly above. so 190-200k.

I'm going slightly below, just cause that's been the trend the past couple of weeks. So 170K-180K.

Only the most recent week has been slightly below. The yoy trend since the SSBU release has been down ~90k, down ~50k, down ~10k, so the initial strong hardware boost by SSBU has been offset by the new Lite SKU over time. And as zorg1000 pointed out, there's also one more pre-Christmas day in this year's week 52.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Does anyone know how long that PS4 discount is valid for?

Until January 5th.

Thanks.  So we should continue to see elevated PS4 sales for the next couple of weeks.

NSW has 27 games in the top 30, and all of the games in the top 10. Wow! This is during the holidays too. Japan is all about Switch at this point.
