Wii Sports without question. It was synonymous with the Wii. It was why the console went viral.

Second to that, but first among dedicated gamers, is Halo. Halo made Xbox a thing. It was a massive success in that regard. I don't believe the history of Xbox would be nearly as good without Microsoft acquiring Halo. Halo was all over the place during that time and everyone was talking about. It was a really big deal.

I don't think any of the other games on that list had nearly as much impact.

Your reasoning for "first among dedicated gamers" applies much, much more to Super Mario Bros.

No, it doesn't.

Tough call between SMW and Halo for me.

I am surprised nobody talks about soul calibur, that game was a big deal back in the day it even got a perfect 10 from egm, funny how time elevates some games and banishes others.

It was on the dreamcast and sold badly, probably why it's easily overlooked.

not really the Dreamcast had the most successful launch up until that time, sonic and soul calibur were the must  have titles, and the press went nuts with soul calibur many gave it the game of the year award.

also there are games that sold poorly but are highly regarded example: earthbound.

It was a tough decision, but I voted Super Mario Bros. I really wanted to give it to Breath of the Wild as well though. Wii Sports is also an extremely strong candidate and should have been in the poll instead of Twilight Princess.

I talk about Soul Calibur. 😢

Super Mario Bros it not only launched the NES but did so in a time when gaming was in serious trouble.

Given that breath of the wild is one would be my favourite game I think of all time... I'm gonna have to say that was the best overall launch game, that said it's now more than 20 years later and I find myself chucking my original copy of Mario 64 into my N64 and blasting through all 120 stars in a weekend because that game is also amazing, as a revolution of how 3d platforming should be done Mario Nailed it, but then... as to how to make an open world feel important and special I think nothing rivals Breath of the Wild and likely never will again.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

BotW obviously. Second would probably be either Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 or Halo: Combat Evolved. And maybe Tetris too.

But my own personal fave is Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader for the GC.
