Forums - PC Discussion - Oculus Rift S announced, launching Spring 2019 for $399

this is a "decent"-ish headset for now, but not for the next 3-4 years

Are there even any worthwhile VR apps that is worth spending this much money on lol?

I've put hundreds of hours into my rift. There are a good number of games.

But the coolest thing is the experience.  Nothing quite matches being able to look up in Skyrim and see the night sky .

Prediction, still not the device that's gonna make VR popular.

But I'm not sure if the masses actually want VR.

Oculus Quest is the device they are pushing to make VR popular.  That one doesn't require a PC.

While my personal experience doesn't really count for much, what I've seen is people are interested, but not at the price and for the applications.

$400 for that.....uhhh I'll pass on that.

But you buy so much stuff and literally don't care when and where it comes from?.

Why does $400 suddenly become the no-go, your price listing and general spending habits show that nothing seems to matter, as long as you like it.

Where did this snarky post come from all of a sudden lol

I buy a lot of stuff because I can and when I want to because it’s money I worked hard to get and no one is gonna deny me my right to do so.

As for not caring about when or where something came from is such a shallow assumption considering I always do research before buying something and not some random person who sees something pretty and buying it

The $400 suddenly becomes a no go when that product is useless, obsolete and unimportant to my needs, wants and interests.

The same logic is applied to the Vita, 3D, touch controls,  VR, tablets and any other type of product or innovation.

I am not the type of person who buys paperweights worth hundreds or thousands of dollars.

You don’t even know my actual spending habits or my economical status - the info you get from discord isn’t even remotely close to what I actually spend on, have, etc.

You nor no one else needs to know that information because in the grand scheme of things as far as Internet forums and social media goes, its irrelevant information.

So I suggest you lay off the kool-aid and drink something more healthy.

Not snarky, just going based on what you've been listing over the years and what you've been willing to buy at what price.

I work for my money as well and what I did to buy the things I've wanted over the years, but that has nothing to do with rights or denial of purchase in this topic of a VR headset.

Going on what you've purchased over the years, I'd say you do show some non caring, especially given the EGS and not caring about consumer policies, consumer deals. Yes free games on there for sure, but Humble bundle does, as do other places as well, so it's not something that's really having EGS's very few free games tiding over everything else. I don't think you've done proper research into what's been going on with EG, but if so, it could be summed up to not caring about whatever happens down the road from that company.

The device isn't completely obsolete though, even before it's come out. What superficial needs do you require, that require a cheaper and somehow "superior" headset? (I want to get into VR sometime, but it's nowhere near my level of expectations, so yours have to be smaller than mine if you've even considered a headset at all at this point).

Basil, over the past few years, you've been posting massive, nay, insane lists of what games and hw for them that you've been buying. Anything outside of gaming is completely unimportant to the discussion. if you've gone to these lengths, to post such huge lists, and claim it's only a small fraction, then why waste that time at all?. It's either a fraction of the total games bought/hw, or you're including non gaming products, which don't or shouldn't even factor in to the "you don't know my spending habits".

I suggest laying off the same aid my dude.

I'll wait for direct brain input/output before I muck around with VR.

Going for LCD this time is a huge disappointment. Also 80Hz...I don't know how different the cost would be if they went for OLED with 90Hz.

I believe they're aiming to have the pc spec requirements match up with the previous version  so the moderate decrease in Hz is there to offset the moderate increase in resolution.

I'm mostly disappointed.  It doesn't even quite stack up to the Oculus Quest for the same price, yet largely has fewer features.  This definitely isn't a replacement for the Rift, but it would be a very cool device for my laptop.

The Rift or Rift S? Sure!

Look, you don’t pay me to buy what I want to buy

I will buy what I want , when I want and how I want.

If something does not provide me a reason to buy it, I simply won’t buy it - I don’t mind shelling out hundreds of dollars to something as long as it provides me a reason to do so, VR has yet shown me a reason to shell out such cash.

I mean I am not gonna shell cash out to play some 2-3 hour Batman demo.

If there is a dedicated VR game that is worth buying , I will pursue it - as of now there’s no point.

Its like you are upset that I am not buying a tablet pc like the surface pro when I have a hybrid laptop that has the specs of an actual laptop.

—-

i mean why bring this up all of a sudden? Does it bother you that I can buy stuff? I mean surely you have the will power and hopefully the knowledge and equivalent amount of skill, same as I and most normal people do to say to be able to decide and buy.

Do my lists of game purchases annoy you that much ;p?

—-

And so what if another store exists and doing scummy stuff, this world isn’t perfect - you gotta play the system to get what you want. I don’t believe in boycotts of products or services especially if they are of value that can be used for one reason or another.

And you are right, I don’t care because it’s not my job to care or fix other people’s issues.

I am a consumer, not some industry analyst, developer, stock holder  or accountant. I am not obligated to be loyal to one thing or another.

And I only drink water , none of that sugary garbage

If you happen to have some VR Arcade near you, try it out - that's possibly easiest way to see what's all the fuss about.
