Looks like PS4's 5,000 yen price cut and two free games managed to boost sales as expected, but not enough to bring it up from this time last year.

Last year the PS4 had the Monster Hunter World Pro bundle.  If you look at the split, 10k more of the slim model sold compared to last year (50k vs 40k) while the pro numbers dropped, due to that bundle.

If ps4 keeps this up it could have another 1.8m+ year. Anything over 1.75m would be excellent. Keeping well ahead of the ps3 aligned. 8m here we go!

Last year had a special release MHW PS4 and I think they bundled MHW altogether. Can't recall, had some MHW promo. Not easy to beat Monster Hunter related stuff in Japan, as Smash's first week retail just falling short shows.

Switch hardware and software contine to sell great, I mean just look at this legs:

01./00. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate # (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} (¥7.200) - 1.220.535 / NEW
02./01. [NSW] Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! / Let's Go, Eevee! # (Pokemon Co.) {2018.11.16} (¥5.980) - 93.787 / 1.012.247 (-1%)
03./03. [NSW] Super Mario Party # (Nintendo) {2018.10.05} (¥5.980) - 69.861 / 489.767 (+40%)
04./06. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) - 20.995 / 1.881.751 (+62%)
05./07. [NSW] Splatoon 2 # (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) - 19.083 / 2.740.677 (+57%)
06./08. [NSW] Minecraft # (Microsoft Game Studios) {2018.06.21} (¥3.600) - 16.948 / 403.784 (+45%)
09./12. [NSW] Super Mario Odyssey # (Nintendo) {2017.10.27} (¥5.980) - 9.592 / 1.866.426 (+64%)
10./11. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild # (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} (¥6.980) - 9.531 / 1.182.281 (+47%)
12./18. [NSW] Kirby Star Allies (Nintendo) {2018.03.16} (¥5.980) - 7.677 / 658.270 (+75%)

8 of 9 are Nintendo first party. That to me is more a problem in the long term than something really great. Switch is not allowing third parties to flourish in the system, not as much as Wii, DS or 3DS did, even. Nintendo has already launched almost all of its biggest franchises in Japan (only remains Animal Crossing and new full main Pokemon game). Switch needs more support aside from Nintendo first parties to reach 3DS or DS sales in Japan. I'm not saying there won't be in the future, but right now i'm not seeing that support.

No but at other hand 5.000 yen price cut with two free games is incredible good deal, you saving like around 15.000 yen with that bundle, around half of PS4 price  in Japan.

I wish you a Switchy Christmas and a Smashing New Year.

Definitely agreed! That's why there were 3.5 times as many PS4 sold this week compared with last week. It's a great deal. Curious to see how frontloaded the promo sales will be since it goes all the way to the 6th of January.

We already knew Nintendo would dominate so nothing shocking there. Nice PS4-boost

Offcourse that 3rd party game can sell well on Switch, but we here talking about legs, I mean you were rearly see on any platform and on other markets that any 3rd party game has strong legs like Nintendo games do, only notible games to come to my mind are GTAV and Minecraft. Talking about Nintendo games, you also have 2D Mario, alogside Animall Crossing and Pokemon, and sequels also drive hardware sales. In any case I think that price cuts and revisions will do more for Switch sales in Japan than any game could. Its not like that Switch has big 3rd party games in Japan currently, and Switch 3rd party support is increasing, next year from 3rd party we will have Yokai Watch 4 and Dragon Quest 11 S, and those are just currently confirmed games.
