Would be more believable without the Xbox One part. But even then, the gap between Persona 4 and 5 was so long that I'd be really surprised if #6 were released so close to 5. They haven't even re-released 5 in any way yet!
Considering the time between P4 and P5, it's unlikely to see it, even if the franchise is popular now. Atlus has way too much milking to do before P6 (Switch port included).
Yeah, let Atlus foreshadow the upcoming SMT V for the announcement of a Persona game.
Lol, there's nothing remotely trustable in this rumor. It's also way too close from the release of Persona 5.
Well just a reminder that Persona 3 and Persona 4 released 2 years apart. (July 2016 & July 2008.)
And Persona 5 was released September 15, 2016 in Japan. Which tomorrow is exactly 2 years ago.
So from that perspective alone, it could even be a bit late if they go with the P3 to P4 release window rather than P4 to P5.
However, I don't expect it to be announced yet for a few reasons.
Even though it could even have been released already going by P3 to P4 standards, I feel like it is still a bit early to talk about P6 because the situation is a bit different now.
For starters, P3 and P4 were on a game engine designed for the system they released on (PS2). Persona 5 however is on an engine designed for Playstation 3.
If they were to release a Persona 6 fairly soon, we may find ourselves in a similar situation to before, where it is released on both Playstation 4 and Playstation 5.
Somehow I don't imagine Atlus would want to use a PS3 game engine on Playstation 5. But Playstation 5 may be 2-3 years away. If Persona 6 would only release on PS4/XBO/Switch, then I could see them re-using the P5 engine again.
But with the amount of time fans waited for Persona 5, there may be some expectations for Persona 6 to introduce as many new and developed ideas as they introduced in Persona 5. It felt like much more of a sequel then Persona 4 did, gameplay wise. And that's probably partially due to the time they took with development.
And then there's the possibility of a re-released Persona 5 Special Edition, and a Persona 5 fighting game. It would seem more appropriate to announce these before people start talking about Persona 6.
Atlus are also working on SMTV, Catherine: Full Body, Persona Q2, and Project Re Fantasy.
Not sure if that means they have their plate full, but it's worth noting.
I guess I wouldn't be shocked if they announce P6, but I do feel like it probably wouldn't happen just yet.
However... Xbox One?
That to me is the most unbelievable part of this story. If they're going to re-use the current game engine to release P6 for current gen systems, I', sure they'd pick Switch over Xbox One. And Switch should be able to run a PS3 level engine just fine.
We still haven't gotten Persona 5 Arena and Persona 5 Crimson.
That would be handled by Arc System Works in that case. And they did recently say in an interview that they were saving some Persona characters (from the new Blaze Blue Cross Tag game) for a potential Persona 5 Arena, so that may be a hint that they're already working on it. At the very least they're heavily considering it.
