Now that Dengeki is up, the moment you were all waiting for : market share data!!

Shining Resonance (PS3) 93106 (75%)

Shining Resonance Refrain (PS4) 27623 (22%)

Shining Resonance Refrain (NS) 3756 (3%)

I'm puzzled about Octopath's outstanding success. Look at the following pictures

Switch owners had the choice between an old-looking RPG and a modern RPG with waifus, modern graphics & animation, and they massively picked the one with weak graphics. I believe that can send a wrong message to 3rd parties : now SquareEnix or anyone can make a PSOne-looking RPG, slap exclusive + nostalgia on it and say "hey, Switch fans, this is just for you". Result being that Switch would get less and less high-end games and more old-school ones with low production values.

Yes

It'll keep getting discounted. Hasn't sold through half of its first shipment yet.

@ryuzaki

It helps that Octopath is being pretty universally praised for being an excellent game. I'm not saying Shining Resonance is bad, because it's not bad at all. Octopath is just excellent (although its sales honestly aren't super impressive quite yet). It's the successor to what that team did with Bravely Default while also emulating some of the very best aspects of major Squaresoft and Square Enix titles.

Can you show 1 respected reviewer who paints the Octopath graphics the same way in which you do? I suspect they're just not your cup-of-tea and you are presenting your own opinion as fact.

Regardless, there absolutely is an appetite for retro-influenced games on Switch - which obviously suits Switch owners as they're the ones buying them in the first place, so your concern is unwarranted. And just like you completely failed to define your use of the terms casual gamers / games in a coherent way in a previous thread I suspect it'd be the same case here with your use of production values.

Unless you're trolling, in which case, touche!

mmmmm I guess you're being sarcastic. Anyway, for me the first pic looks waaaaaay better than the second and it's not even close. Also, I'd buy a FF5/6 remake with Octopath's art-style because it just looks so great and it fits those games well.

Once again, we are acting like full priced late ports of already late ports are supposed to push big numbers?

Is this a joke?

BTW, with a recent video by Gamexplain regarding Gym battle requirement is applied to all Gym instead of the first starting area then there's no doubt they're really alienating core pokemon fans.

Gamefreak better hopes 2019 version of mainline pokemon is good enough because Nintendo isn't gonna accept mediocre result for a big franchise like Pokemon. Nintendo now has a lot of titles that can simply outperform Pokemon sales.

This was from end of June, so it's ahead of 50% now, but it's still got some ways to go.
