Forums - Sales Discussion - Say what you want , but State of Decay 2 won May NPD 2018

Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 4, State of Decay 2 ... Microsoft really isn't doing as bad this year as many of us would think.

All these games are going to/have sold pretty well.

Misleading. There weren't any other big new releases to compete with so being number 1 for the month without competition isn't anything to be amazed about.

Uhm, Detroit Become Human?

"Big" new release.

Uhh ... how is that relevant?

State of Decay was just as "big" as Heavy Rain or Beyond Two Souls (probably quite a bit smaller than Heavy Rain actually once you count the re-releases)

It's not like it was a month where the game had no direct competition. Detroit and State of Decay 2 might both be very different but they're kind of in the same category of popularity, and they're both similar kinds of releases for both platforms, not huge but big enough to be a hit for the month they come out.

Yeah, one mediocre release beat another mediocre release.

That's the point. It's like one lowly ranked high school basketball team beating another lowly  ranked ighh school basketball team.

Nothing to be surprised about.

It really just seems like you're trying to backpeddle instead of just admitting that yes - there was a major release it beat out - because that would make your original post irrelevant.

After all, isn't "big" relative? I mean, I know that there are many Sony projects that are considerably bigger than Detroit, but it isn't exactly a small project either. It's sales will probably be near that of Infamous or possibly even the original God of War games by the time it's done selling (and that isn't including a possible re-release). Again, it really seems like you're downplaying the game just to make it seem as if your comment isn't incorrect.

"There weren't any other big new releases to compete with so being number 1 for the month without competition isn't anything to be amazed about."

In your original comment you say there weren't "any other big" new releases, indicating that in this statement you were considering State of Decay 2 as a "big" release. Then later on you say that it wasn't anything to be amazed by because it was "without competition" - even though I pointed out there was one.

You can argue how "big" or "mediocre" the release is all you want, that's just a distraction though because terminology is relative, your original comment was about the game's status as #1 not being impressive primarily because there wasn't any new releases of it's stature to compete with it, and as I've shown that's wrong.

Where is the NPD thread?

are they counting game pass?

No, Game Pass is not counted. Revenue includes physical and digital XB1 sales and digital PC sales. Aquamarine said that the amount of SOD2 PC sales were pretty substantial.

How she would know the PC sales? MS count all the Xbox and Windows sales together since it's the same store across XBO and W10.

Dark Souls Remastered and Detroit Become Human.
