Did some calculations on the EL Prize money during the group stages with the downsizing from 48 to 32 teams. Obviously these numbers are assuming the total amount of prize money isn't changed (which it probably will):

  • Group Stage participation: currently €2,920,000 for all 48 teams at €140,160,000 total. Would be €4,380,000 a team at 32 teams
  • Group Stage win: currently at €570,000 a win with a maximum of 24 wins a round (48 teams, 24 matches, assuming none end in a draw), putting the amount of money distributed to the match winners at €13,680,000 total for each round. Would be €855,000 a win at 16 matches a round
  • Group Stage draw: currently at €190,000 a draw with a maximum of 24 draws a round (48 teams, 24 matches, assuming all end in a draw), putting the amount of money distributed to the the 48 teams at €9,120,000 total for each round. Would be €285,000 a draw at 16 matches a round
  • Group Winners: currently each group winner gets €1,000,000 with 12 group winners putting the total at €12,000,000. If this is distributed to 8 teams instead you'd get €1,500,000 for each of the 8 group winners
  • Group Runners-up: currently each group runner-up gets €500,000 with 12 group runners-up putting the total at €6,000,000. If this is distributed to 8 teams instead you'd get €750,000 for each of the 8 group winners
Maximum prize money during the group stages (participation, 6 group wins + topping the group) would go from €7,340,000 to €11,010,000.

Luka Modric won the 2018 Ballon d'Or.

And Kylian Mbappé won the Kopa Trophy (best U21 player).

I think both of those are thoroughly deserved. I don't think there can be any argument against Mbappé after both his season with PSG and more importantly the World Cup. Good to see Modric win too, he has been a fantastic player for Real over the years. This could be the end of the Messi/Ronaldo era though. I think it will be hard for either of them to win it ever again now.

I'd say it's the end of the Ballon d'Or if anything.

That's a huge fucking yikers from me

Good old saints, sacking another manager. Whoever comes next has a hard job. Getting back to the Premier League. :P

Hmm, pie.

An offside goal for United and Rojo should probably be off. Nasty tackle by Mustafi too. I'm afraid there'll be more injuries..

What a grim game. Not happy for a point at all. Win was there for the taking. Mou's United is a disgusting bunch.

I'd say look at all 4 goals heh. Only one of them was offside though. But Stoke City was playing rugby most of the match. Wenger's Arsenal would have crumbled.

Too bad Aubameyang & Mkhi wasted their good chances. Should be happy we got a point from Old Trafford though.. I just can't.

If Holding got injured badly we're screwed. Lots of games incoming.
