Based on Horizon's sales (7.6 million in 1 year), I don't see how 7-8 million is the upper limit you see for this title.

I'm going based on the past series sales.  I think I read GoW 3 is about at 8m.  Also, Uncharted and TLoU float around that number too, though Uncharted 4 was heavily bundled.

And you be careful comparing this game to others.  Doesn't go over well here.

GoW 3 was like 5.5 million. This new one has probably already sold well over 4 million in 2 weeks. We're talking a different class of sales all together. The notion that it won't completely blow the doors off of Horizons sales is just stupid. Assuming GoW 4's legs based on past titles would be like assuming it's first week based on past titles. PS4 is a different beast to the PS3, it sells software far more rapidly.

So your evidence is other games sell on PS4, so this one will too.  Neat.

The evidence being that it sold more in 3 days than Horizon did in 14 days (500k more). That it's second week drop in the UK was 35% compared to 60% for Horizon. We can assume that it probably had a lesser drop in the US too. That's the evidence. The rest is common sense. I literally see no reason why it won't leave Horizon in the dust sales wise.

In fact, tell me why it won't? Evidence stacked against it that is.

Look at those views man, without any ad.

Spider man is a very popular movies character specially nowdays and you can be sure A LOT of people that crossed this video won't ever be getting close to a PS4 to begin with.

Anyway, Spider Man will be luck to break past 5M sales on PS4, I don't know what are you guys expecting, but even if it does, GoW hype was a monster, it's beating Uncharted 4, and the thing sold 9M in 9 months.

Why would you even think that? I think we should have come to learn by now that big budget, highly marketed PS4 exclusives sell 5 million in their sleep.

The evidence against it is the series past sales, something I pointed out already.  God of War PS4 is a part of the God of War franchise, not the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise.  Their sales are completely and totally separate of each other.  Your evidence is not even evidence, it's a comparison.

I don't think the past sales are relevant.  It is a different type of game in a different time, and we already have sales that put it not that far off from the LTD of the previous games.

This is a completely different situation.

Fair enough.  However this is a video game sales tracking site and typically the best way to track a sequel/reboot's sales data is it's history.  With that said, this GOW is very different as you mention.  This leaves us with little to compare it to.  So how is one meant to predict the sales of something if it has no comparable data?  The only semi reliable way is to review it's history.

You mean Sony own flagship games, which it's not.

Some of you guys are having some really wishful thinking about the sales of this game. Get a look and how many exclusives sold over 5M on the PS4 that are not first party games. Zero.

I don't think being made in house has much to do with it. PS4 has only had 3 big budget, highly rated, high selling exclusives, Uncharted 4, Horizon, and God Of War. The rest were either lesser budget and hype (Bloodborne/Until Dawn/The Last Guardian) and, or crap games (The Order 1886/Driveclub).

I don't see why you think that there's less hype for Spider-Man than UC4/Horizon/GoW. Don't say 'based on past games' tho, because you know that's bullshit.

But it's literally a few weeks from passing the lifetime sales of GoW 3, the previous best seller in the series. So then using past games as any indication would be stupid. You seem to have it in your head that Horizon is a bigger franchise than GoW and that it will have better legs. It won't, not because I see the future, but because I have some common sense. GoW has already shown beyond doubt that it will be more successful than Horizon. In literally every single way.

There's an extremely thin chance I'm wrong though, so you can choose to hang on to that if you like.

Sure, that is understandable.  I guess comparing it to similar games this gen would be useful as well.  However, I can't really think of games that have released this gen that are very comparable to it.  Something like The Witcher 3 heads too far into the open world/RPG direction and something like Bloodborne doesn't have anywhere near the same level of appeal despite its very high quality.

For the most part, I think we just have to watch and see where it goes as it carves out its own data points and becomes a reference for future games like this.  It is a rather unique type of game at this stage of the industry: SP only game with huge content that has massive critical success and a mostly linear structure.
