Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 Won February NPD (PS4: 363K, XBO: 310K, NSW: 279K)

The PS4 beating the Switch by so much in the U.S. likely means it battered everything else world-wide.

I also saw someone say the Xbox One broke 300k sales? That would put the Switch at no less than 273k and the PS4 at no less than 355k.

The best estimate we have so far is

PS4-364k

XBO-311k

NSW-280k

It was always going to be a challenge to keep up the releases. Keep in mind that Nintendo had to halt WiiU development in order to have a strong launch for the Switch. Now they’ve gone 3.5 months between major releases.

If they can be this close without major releases, while competition is having it, image when it actually starts getting big games? You’re right, it will outsell everything else.

What major release did the PS4 have in February? Also, let’s forget that the Switch is in its first year and the PS4 in its 5th - both selling at the same price. Also, is 30% really “this close”?

I have been telling people this, switch dominated amazon in February, but it comes in 3rd place. amazon is basically nintedo domination, i even stopped posting in that thread, it's a waste of time.

The Amazon thread is quite pointless. It’s always showing Nintendo destroying everything and, when actual results come out, it turns out that no. Bayonetta was the 2nd best selling game on Amazon in February as well.

Amazon is only 1 retailer, just like COMG in Japan. If people want their predictions to be 100%right, then they should keep track on MANY RETAILERS.

But who got time for that?

You know that 30% higher from 200k-230k is ~60k? Wich is ~15k higher from every week. That's far from being DESTROYED by the competition.

And lol at people making a deal about the console age, like if people go to store "hey, how old is this console? What?! 4 years? Ugh, that's like my grandma age in console years... No deal"

So you’re saying that a console’s age doesn’t matter? That consoles can keep selling forever?

Its steal contemporary.  Its not like Nintendo releases something and everyone else is cancelled.  Only fanyboys would think that way.  Even if you are being objective, you would look at prior lifecycles for PlayStation consoles and predict that it will be a good 6 years.  Honestly, I think as prices go down, it kinda counter balances the time effect.

This is fairly sad to read through if I'm honest, no one should be that obsessed with a piece of hardware failing to sell, unless you've got shares in every rival company you should really reconsider time spent on your hobby.

Pretty cool to see all 3 machines selling healthy numbers in the states though, nothing like competition to make sure that us gamers get the Best

Exactly this. Competition is very important. Could you imagine someone wanting less competition? Less entertainment?

8 million is good but take a look at the previous 3 Mario Kart titles.

Mario Kart DS (2005)-23.60 million

Mario Kart Wii (2008)-37.02 million

Mario Kart 7 (2011)-16.76 million

Mario Kart 8 (2014)-8.40 million

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)-7.33 million

It sold well but much less than it should have, the fact that its updated port is going to outsell the original in less than a year is proof of that.

I mean if it is a port, can't we just say that Mario Kart 8 sold nearly 16 million copies?  I think you are both wrong. I don't think it was a waste and I think its par for the course sales wise when combined.

NSW 2018 vs PS4/XBO 2015 (2nd full year)

NSW, ~550k
PS4, ~530k
XBO, ~425k

If it keeps getting games, sure. The PS2 was discontinued after 13 years. The 3DS is still going. With the Pro and X, it's only gonna get longer.

The PS2 was a beast - it’s moot to compare anything to it. But with the 3DS, sales peaked in its first year and dropped quickly after that.

Funny how fast the narrative changes!

"Switch is killing it, Nintendomination" and now it's "oh be happy all consoles are doing well" "very expected with a game like MH", while the same game had horrible expectations before launch from the same group.

lol so predictable.

With 2015 having 8 weeks and 2018 having 9 weeks. And, of course, the PS4 being $400 vs the Switch’s $300.
