It was a reply to a guy that said he though it would only do 2m lifetime sales.

Why I posted it? because I think the "head" of Famitsu, knows better than some random user on this site.

If he think it has the potential to reach 10m, its def. going to go over 2m..... people proclaiming doom & gloom for MHW are nuts.
the Pre-orders and Beta try-outs have gone really well.

Isn't that a revisionist interpretation of the post you quoted?

Breaking 5 million is a tall order, but it's possible, especially since it's a multiplat. That said, I don't think it will get that high. 2-3 million is my estimate.

^ That doesn't look like a hard prediction of 2 million max.

The appeal to authority argument is pretty lazy and unconvincing, especially when one observes the available data, known facts about the series, and acknowledges that the guy one is citing is the head of a magazine publication company, not a sales analyst. It's like saying "I think the electronics analyst Michael Pachter knows better than some random user on this site" except worse.

I definitely did not say hard prediction of 2 million, ha ha. My ESTIMATE is 2 to 3 million, which could easily be very wrong anyway.

And I don't think 10 million is possible unless it absolutely explodes in the West. Current trends for the series suggest around 50% of sales will be in Japan, and with 6 million PS4 (likely to grow by another million at least very quickly once the game launches), it would have to have an install rate out of this world and more sales then any other game in the series in the west to do it. But, again, that's just an ESTIMATE, people. I'm not claiming outcome I say is fact or going to be anywhere close to it.

And, don't use Amazon charts as an absolute gauge, more of a feeling the water kind of thing. Games can chart very high there but still turn in expected numbers or drop off very quickly depending on tons of factors. I don't doubt MH:W is going to have a good launch though.

Yeah it was just for the beta, here is an indepth video for the character creation process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rnonAMo4C8

What Monster Hunter is about? Hunting Monsters.

But in the grand sceme of everything, what I find fascinating about MH is that you have to find a way to kill the monsters. At the beginning you will fast realise that the gameplay is very different from other games and that one hit at the wrong time will cost you your life. Even when playing against very weak monsters.

So as you progress you get to know your movement, how fast you can be with the different weapons and you start to adjust your playstyle to the Monsters you face.

And it only gets more difficult and if you succeed you can see how great you improved. And then when you go back to the weak monsters you know exactely how they move and really see how much better you got.

GLad to see there’s more in depth on character creation. Is there a story to follow? Or is it simply; go kill this monster and move onto the next??

The bolded is what I said, except you make a stronger statement that he asserted it to be so rather than leaving for the chance that it is conditional, which I might agree upon rereading what was said.

Yet the game is still tracking to do half of what the previous mainline Monster Hunter has done in Japan.

It would make more sense if he was talking about the game being western-focused, or multi-plat than mention Japanese sales (which are almost certainly going to decline with respect to handheld titles.)

Either way, ten million is a ridiculous prediction for a single Monster Hunter game, and I don't even know why you'd post it, especially since it is based on flimsy assumptions.  That doesn't mean Capcom won't make a lot of money reusing assets in the inevitable expansions and portable versions though. It doesn't need to sell ten million to be successful.

So your argueing with me for no reason at all? just because?
it was kinda obvious it was a reply to a guy that made a ridiculous low prediction.

Also I believe saying Potential to reach 10m, is less crazy than saying it ll only do 2m lifetime.
Again this is from Famitsu.

While I think MHW will probably be the best selling MH game, and it will do great for the franchise, I wouldn’t treat the head of Famitsu’s prediction as something more credible than anyone else’s, especially considering he thought DQXI would sell more than Pokemon Sun/Moon and FFXV combined in Japan (more than 5 million)

That 5 million included the Switch version so he really won't be that far in reality.

Didn’t realize that, doesn’t make his prediction seem as bad anymore, but he’ll most likely still be off by more than 1 million

I don't know how much the Switch version is going to do but I doubt it'll be below 500k. The 3DS and PS4 version are at 3.5m right now.

I really don’t think the Switch version will do well at all, it will be a year old by the time it actually comes out, probably even more. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked to see it do low numbers
