I believe thats when everyone was clearing out their stock and hd dvds were cheaper than dirt
according to Highdefdigest.com there is a total of 8 more movies being released on HD-DVD. 6 by Warner, 1 by Bandai, and 1 by Vanguard.
you people complaining that this isnt a valid comparison because its top 20 vs top 20 are just looking for something to bitch about. they compare the top 20 because thats the portion of the market that is best suited at predicting the future of the market. Which is the whole point. Who cares how many copies Die Hard 2 sold on dvd? or veggie tales? no one, cause its insignificant. What matters is % of sales on new movies, its not that complicated. I am curious how Juno will sell on blu ray, because thats a big movie and seeing what % goes blu ray over dvd will be a telling stat. unlike trying to compare total dvd sales vs blu ray sales.
people know this but think they are making some big brilliant revelation by pointing out its top 20 vs top 20. but its that way for a GOOD reason. i dont know why people would want to cling to dvd sales for old movies, my only guess is PS3 hate and they are tying blu ray to PS3 - so thus they must make any stupid ole' statement to try to downplay Blu ray. get over it. blu ray is here and its growing fast

misleading title, misleading first post, misleading thread. Nowhere in the title or start of the thread does it even say that it's only the top 20 titles. I can't believe you're so brainwashed to think it's only viable to compare the top 20 and anything below that doesn't matter. I'm sure every title out of the top 20 of blu-ray is selling at or near triple digets and that's exactly why they close to do this misleading comparison. |
I can't believe this has to be said, but duh...............There aren't nearly as many titles available in Blu-Ray back catalogs as there are for DVD, so obviously it doesn't make sense to compare all sales vs all sales. What we want to see is how new releases for one format stack up against new releases for the other, to notice trends that way.
And, outside the top 20 but within Blu-Ray's catalog...yeah, Blu-Ray sales are way low, but DVD sales are so much lower than top-20 DVD sales that Blu-Ray may blow DVD away. There's a smaller percentage of old movies that no one cares about on Blu-Ray than there are on DVD....
This is a fine metric to judge trends.
Week Totals for 4/20 released. HD-DVD officially finally dying in sales.
DVD vs Blu-ray basically staying at the same levels in the top 20.
bump as this might be interesting for some people.
Why is this thread stickied?
It has nothing to do with the console wars?
Put it in off-topic if you insist on having it.

How is blu ray sales off topic? it is in the sales forum.... and why does everything have to be about the console wars... hell we have news about a lot of different topics here (PC) and even then Blu-ray goes hand in hand with Ps3. Thats a major selling point for the console.
