The Playstation 4's CPU is indeed superior to Cell.
The games speak for themselves anyway.

Are you seriously comparing games that were made for a split 256/256MByte memory layout with games that are made for a 8GByte unified memory layout?

Like that makes a difference when we are talking character counts?

I'm no tech genius but the Cell at the hands of the right developers is easily comparable to Jaguar if we believe Mark Cerny's words.

Mark Cerny said they considered implementing the exact same cell found inside the PS3. But went for Jaguar due to its developer friendly architecture.

Lol. No.

The thing about Cell by the end of the Playstation 3's life is that it was taped out, it was well understood and all the game engines supported it fully.
The difficult curve was essentially over.

The SPU's can do everything a "normal" cpu can do. They are as fast on integer as they are on fp.

So not true. Integer was always the Cell's achilles heels, the CPU architecture was heavily in favor of floating point...

And even then you had to use various "tricks" to even get decent floating point performance out of Cell. We are talking Matrix operations and Interative Refinement to make the most of it... And no. It's integer performance was not on the same level as it's floating point performance once you started going down that path.

Jaguar is a smarket, better rounded CPU architecture that is good at *everything*. Cell was only good at floating point and only then in a few edge cases.

If you want, you can see that the Cell-BE performs in Linpack between 9.67GFlops (1000x1000) to 200 GFlops (Matrix multiplication), while the Cortex does in Geekbench between 2 GFlops (DGEMM) and 6 GFlops (SGEMM). I ignored the ST-results, because that means Single Thread - only one core is used.

I have seen the 6-core Core i7 4960X and 3960X fall under 200Gflop in Linpack. Are you telling me that Cell is faster than a multi-billion transister, $1000 CPU? ;)
