A theory that the majority of his viewers took as gospel. -_-

As one of his viewers, I wouldn't know about that. True, you said majority, and I can't speak for the majority, but I generally just take his videos as fun, overanalytical deep dives into video games utilizing loads of actual math and science that the developers clearly never intended to be considered. My room mate, who is also a viewer, takes them even less seriously.
Sometimes he makes some genuinely great points. Sometimes he comes to an interesting conclusion that doesn't really hold up to scrutiny, but is still interesting nonetheless (LINK IS DEAD IN MAJORA), and sometimes he is clearly just having fun applying some dark real world logic to a colorful all-ages kart racer.
This stuff does not come from "hatred". For the most part, he talks about what he loves. That he's done so many videos on Mario means that he's played hundreds of hours of Mario, spent hundreds of hours thinking about Mario, and that's because he LOVES Mario.
A lot can be said about his videos. They are certainly punneriffic and silly, and I'm sure that can annoy some people. They also are certainly designed to seek attention, which isn't really a criticism since that's the whole point of putting a monetized video on YouTube: you can't exactly build a viewership if you don't make videos that will bring in viewers.
But they also bring an interesting new view to many video games. The physics of the Bioshock games, the sociology of GTAV, and of course the piecing together of lore of games that, at first glance, have little story, like Dark Souls.
So....is MatPat a hater? No. Like I said earlier, if he hated Mario, there would just be no videos about his world. At worst, he overthinks games, and likes to apply adult concepts to the child friendly ones. And I don't get why something like that would insult anyone, let alone make him a hater.
