Yes Cemu is a Wii U emulator, so it plays the Wii U version. Emulation for the Switch is still along way off.

CEMU is a WiiU emulator. They've been making good progress for a while, but Zelda's release brought a lot more attention to it and by extension funding through Patreon. Now they're outright flying along.

Ah I'm rather relieved by that, was concerned for the Switch lol... why are Nintendo games seemingly easier to emulate in general?
Anyway, I've been following it a bit on youtube (specifically TheComplainingGamer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89A6tNeuuvY&t=396s) and this emulation of Zelda is actually a testament to how great and well received the game is. Seriously, that whole emulating community is taking it upon themselves to get this thing up and running far faster than your average game ever would have.
In that linked video he describes how one guy singlehandedly found a way to incorporate the cutscenes into the emulated game. Very impressive.
Personally, I really, really don't like the idea of games being emulated within even a year of release, let alone a few months... It always struck me as something that ought to come along a couple years down the road once most of the sales had already taken place. Reading even TheComplainingGamer's justifications seem like unfounded attempts to justify getting games for free without admiting to theft. Complaining that Nintendo's prices for their console or game is unfair is perfectly fine, but then suggesting that makes piracy perfectly OK is certainly a leap of logic; there's no less "fair" price for all the labor that went into this game than $0, and your continued survival is not dependent on ownership of this game lol (although in my case it may very well have been)
That said, it is certainly very impressive, and I know the people working on the emulator do it because they love the challenge; lord knows if they dedicated the many hours of hard work on the emulator to some conventional, less challenging job they'd be able to buy the game a hundred+ times over lol
So yeah, while I think it is essentially little different from theft, I doubt there's any real negatives here... People will get to play Zelda, it's unlikely to affect sales much (if at all), while I doubt it's necessary for this title emulation IS useful as far as game preservation goes, and who knows, maybe people will be brought back to Nintendo by this effort and feel compelled to invest in a Switch down the road as games release and emulation is still a ways off? One can hope, at least :)
