Forums - Gaming Discussion - Phil Spencer reiterates: No exclusives for Scorpio

"...He didn't want to make a proper console launch, with new titles and all, simply because he didn't want Xbox One and Xbox One S users to feel like they were left behind.

"So I do think it's a little different than a traditional console launch, where you have to launch, say, five games on day one. I told the team I don’t want to do that because it's a part of the family of the same systems, every game on it will be playable on Xbox One, Xbox One S, Scorpio, and frankly on Windows 10 as well. So it's a little bit different, but I know content has to be the thing that we use to demonstrate the capability of the box."

But why? Why increase the power 4x fold if games are still being held back so significantly by older hardware? Why not make this a new generation? Seems like a waste of hardware power to me. Scorpio will indeed be the equivalent to the Ps4 Pro, going by Phils statements. And on that note I can't see this launch shaking up the industry too much.

Great time to be on PC though

Good Goood. I shall be playing whatever games on PC then

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

As they have been saying since day one.

Yeah, I'm sure all those new Xbone S owners would love for MS to release a brand new console that kicks off a new gen, lol.

That is the great slippery slope that PS4Pro and Scorpio will face, Scorpio more so since it is the more powerful console. I can only hope MS and Sony dumb enough to go this route

Good news. I wasn't interested in Scorpio anyway since i dont have and i don't plan to get a 4K tv so i'm happy to know that i can keep playing all the new games on my current Xbox one for now.

Although, i believe that in about 3 years we'll start seeing Scorpio exclusives.

IKr?

But some people have instead been insisting its gonna be its own console however little sense that makes. If MS does that it would be suicide.

I mean its an Xbox One and an optional upgrade like the PS4 Pro, so this makes sense.

It would be stupid to drop original Xbox One after the Scorpio launch. Devs still will be held back by original PS4 for at least 3-4 years before PS5 arrives.

Shannon Loftis had stated at one point that it'd be up to the devs to make Scorpio exclusives or not and I think that's where a lot of the confusion came from despite Aaron Greenberg and Phil clarifying later on.

Scorpio could launch while being fully backward compatible, having cross plat games during the launch period and slowly shifting focus to Scorpio only over the course of a few years. With this being a mid gen upgrade though, their next mainline console wont have a typical increase in power or it will drag the generation on for longer as it becomes the lowest common denominator and Sony drops the Ps5 two years later. We will see though. To me it seems like they've positioned themselves so that they can make a relatively easy jump to PC only if Scorpio fails.

You've got my attention, Phil.
