Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Perfect Pitch: UnKarted

Guys, it has been a long time since Naughty Dog has done a racing game. The days of Crash Team Racing and Jak X, are Long behind us: so that is why, today I am pitching UnKarted.

What would a kart racer based on Uncharted look like?
As we surly all understand, Naughty Dog has abandoned the cartoon style their games once had, and I don't think the racing game market can support one more realistic game, so this may require some extra planing.
I feel strongly about this idea, and I think a kart racer that borrows aspects from Yooka-Laylee and features chibi versions of Heroes and Villains from the Uncharted universe could sell well.

UnKarted, is: a very catchy name; but as most of us know gameplay is king, and I think Naughty Dog can still pull off a fun racing game; Do you?

No thanks. Just don't like the idea of a karting game using actual people. Stick to the mascotish characters please, so Knack Karting or something.

Plus I wouldn't want to see Naughty Dog's talents wasted on a karting game. Even indies can make good karting games these days, just outsource it to some AA dev or something and you'll get a great karting game for a much smaller cost than what it would cost ND to make it and ND would be using their time making something much more worthwhile too.

It does not have to be the full force of Naughty Dog, just as Mario Kart did not take the full force of Nintendo EAD.

Well the salaries of a small portion of Naughty Dog are still probably going to be much higher than those of a lesser known AA or indie dev and when it comes to Karting games I simply don't think there's really that much more that can be done. Just look at the Sonic & Sega All Stars racing games, Sega shipped that out to Sumo Digital, who given their previous releases can probably put out games at a much lower cost than Naughty Dog ever could, yet those games were still really good karting games. I don't think they were quite Mario Kart level, but they weren't that far off.

Besides, Sony probably already have some other kinds of deals with smaller studios that mostly work on porting stuff that would love the chance to develop a brand new karting game.

I do like the idea of sending work to smaller teams, but this could also be a good chance for Naughty Dog to train new employees.

I´d rather have a PS characters kart game. I´d have liked Evolution to make it but yeah, not gonna happen.
I guess Sumo Digital could do it.

Crash Team Racing boost mechanic is a must though.

Sony Sonic Speeders, would be a day one purchase from me (assuming quality).
Sega may have an issue with this name.
