Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What they're doing with Breath of the Wild should've did the same with Skyward Sword

This probably the last nail in the coffin I'll go at it with this topic.

Sooo we all know Wii was heavily used with motion controls. Yes Zelda! Motion controls? ugh!.. Yes Mario Kart! motion controls? ugh!... Metroid yes! motion controls ugh?... Super Smash Bros yes! no motion controls? yes! no proper controller for smash bros? ugh! ...  Motion controls, motion controls, motion controls! Motion controls here, motion controls there. It' was always about motion controls... and thats why I didn't own a wii until 2010. And it was gift for christmas, so I didn't exactly ask for it. The only game I truly LOVED on the Wii was New Super Mario Bros. Wii. That game WASN'T based on motion controls at all, the only motion about it was to shake the Wiimote and that was it. But remember, I didn't play many Wii games because I disliked motion controls.

And we know motion controls are back... sorta. With the Switch's gimmick they leave it out of Breath of the Wild. BOTW is just a normal game with a normal controller, with no motion controls or touchscreen anything. They should've did the same with Skyward Sword. I said it once and I'll say it again. If Skyward Sword was motion control free, it would've been better than Ocarina of Time. Story wise, Skyward Sword is the best when it comes to story. Did you see the ending? it's so strong. If there was a Skyward Sword HD remake without motion controls, it's automatically better than Ocarina of Time in my opinion.

But I'm GLAD Nintendo isn't forcing their gimmicks on their games anymore. I'm glad Breath of the Wild is a normal game and it gives it a head start from Skyward Sword on being the better game. Skyward Sword should've NEVER been involved with motion controls. Look at the criticizm it gets. I truly hope Nintendo will release Skyward Sword HD down the Switch's lifecycle without motion controls so they can save the game from getting hate.

Do you think I'm the only person who dislike motion controls? Just google "Skyward Sword motion controls" you'll see a TON of people complaining about it.

I'm sorry that this looks like a rant but it's really not. I say this because it's my humble opinion. Your opinion may be different than mine and there's people who also may agree with me. Thanks for reading!

It is something I seriously hope they at least consider. I haven't really played a Nintendo console since the Wii and its because I pretty much swore off Gimmicks and Motion Controls.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

First: Should have done. "Did" is past tense. "Done" is the past participle.

Secondly: Yes, it is a rant. It's your "humble" opinion, sure. But it's also a rant. A complaint. Like it's the case with most of the threads you make here.

This really wasn't deserving of a thread, years after Skyward Sword's release. It's like you're starting to run out of ideas for what you could complain about Nintendo.

Wait... Maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.

They should have made it a WiiU launch game.

Yeah, I don't think that was the main problem with SS...actually I had no problem with them, other then it got tiring due to my gaming habits and extremely long sessions, so I played somewhere around first half of the game on Dolphin with Xbox controller...then my kids made me play their game on Wii (they got stuck too often), so I finished it there with them, going through around third of the game I've already played on Dolphin again with Wiimote on Wii.

My conclusion (as far as controllers go): some things are easier on classic gamepad, some on Wiimote. In my opinion, in theory Nintendo could make SS completely motion controls free, but given that Switch has them, I really doubt it.

well your problem isn't with Skyward Sword per say, its mostly with the Wii in general as a large number of games required motion controls (just discussing Zelda, the Wii port of Twilight Princess required it too).

Obviously motion controls alienated some people (me) but others clearly liked it. So I think its just time to move on and enjoy a Nintendo system where its an option

I thought the motion controls were a breath of fresh air and I loved them. Making them optional would have been great, I guess. More people wouldn't have been alienated. I still have fond memories of them.

I hated the game with a passion for the first few hours, though. Way to slow if a build up before getting to the "meat".

In general, I'm not a fan of motion controls. Glad to see them relegated to a seldom used, and even then, optional control method.

I'd really like a Skyward Sword HD release without the poor motion controls in there. I think the point of motion controls is for the character to mimic the motions I make. Skyward Sword should keep the sword controls and add gyro aiming, and ditch all the other motion stuff. The swimming, tightrope walk and most of all, the flying, really need to go.

Good to see how you can completely judge a game's objective quality based solely on your subjective and personal tastes.

That said, Skyward Sword HD is pretty much guaranteed to happen at this point, and I highly doubt they'll get rid of motion controls for it. The game just wouldn't work without them - the whole combat system, the enemies, and especially the bosses would have to be severely overhauled.

Edit: also, Brawl had a traditional controller for you to play it. It's called the Gamecube controller and it's still the standard Smash controller to this day.

Yeah and I wouldn't want them to get rid of motion controls. They made each fight that much more tactical and engaging. They provided a much more tactile and accurate way to take down enemies and solve puzzles. Motion controls were one of the best things about the game.
