Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Nintendo Switch will have paid online. And it's all your fault.

People paying for Playstation and Xbox online doesn't imply they will for Switch.
Nobody think Switch will ever have the broad library of multiplayer games, it just doesn't compete.
Nintendo works well as casual and 2nd console, but asking to pay to use that online is bigger deal.
Nintendo just doesn't have a large audience outside of casual and 2nd console scenarios.
If they aren't truly competing with Sony and MS they can't expect to enact the same policies.
Honestly I see this as either Nintendo willingly not targetting audience beyond hardcore Wii U/3DS,
or being oblivious to reality because this policy and the whole console and pricing etc will result in that.

Nope, not my fault, I've never payed to play a game online, though I'll soon have to now that all console makers have resorted to this bullshit.

Well, somebody's poor. If the service is worth it, then it's worth paying for it. Nintendo's online service is to the best of my knowledge, very sub par. Charging for a shitty service is no one's fault but Nintendo.

I mean there are many games just from Nintendo are best when online, Smash, Splatoon, Pokemon, Mario Kart to name a few and these games cover a large percentage of the Nintendo install base.

I pay for PSN for monthly games and the discount being a PS+ member gives when buying digitally (which I do regularly) more than paying for itself over the course of a year.

Nintendo can't do that though, I mean, what would they even give away? Console only has two confirmed games on release day

They've already stated that subscribers of this service will get free virtual console games each month

Woohoo, free 30+ year old games everyone who actually wanted to play them has likely bought multiple times in the past, original system, Wii, WiiU, 3DS..

Sorry, free virtual console games is a massive cop-out, and if they rerelease anything from Wii, WiiU or whatever on the e-shop, even if you already bought it in the past you will certainly have to pay for it again, as evidenced by using the same nnid on 3DS and WiiU, doesn't let you download the same game you purchased on one and the other.

They have stated that these free virtual console games will be updated to have online functionality which is a big deal for most as they did not previously have this feature.

"Subscribers will get to download and play a Nintendo Entertainment System™ (NES) or Super Nintendo Entertainment System™ (Super NES) game (with newly-added online play) for free for a month."

....For a month, oh dear

I'm pretty sure people like you are at fault by constantly wanting online with everything. If they had made the Switch without online capability we wouldn't be in this dilemma. But NOOOOOOOOO. Online here, online there.

The NES had no online and everyone loved it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Is sad, Microsoft make the industry go in this awful way, then Sony follow it and I guess it was only a matter of time until Nintendo did it too, but is still awful, i hate that.

I don't like paying to play games I've already bought as much as the next guy but the networks these companies have produced are amazing. Sony's now allows you to stream your gameplay to another PS4 owners console and play local MP with them... like they are in the same bloody room. That's bloody amazing!

You think this crap doesn't cost money?

Hmm, pie.
