A patch was made on Citra(a 3DS emulator) which allows one to remove the black lines on the models. This was probably put because of the 3ds' low resolution, so taking it off seems to have pretty results.

Personally, I think it looks ok. The main reason why a lot of competitive users remove it is because it is linked to a slight improvement in frame rate during double battle. Also, I think some people simply prefer no lines. Overall however, it's nice. Besides fixing the colour scheme and shading(seems a bit washed out), I think the mainline game for the Switch will look spectacular.

Well 1080p, anti-aliasing (I think), and smooth framerates are the real improvements here, but yeah no outlines is also nice. :L
However some Pokemon look weird without them so Gamefreak will have to tweak some models if they do remove outlines.

Ever since they started going with 3D models, I've always wanted Nintendo to improve the image quality, but most of the time they just upped the models and not the AA. I think X/Y and Sun/Moon look great, but they look beautiful with actual AA involved and the removal of the black lines with SUn/Moon makes them look even more pleasing to my eyes.

All I ask for future Pokemon titles, is that they put in the effort to use a decent level of AA, maybe give an option to remove black lines as well. Improved FPS would also be nice bonus.

Pokken did a pretty good job with 3D models, though some of the pokemon textures in that game is a bit weird :p

To say that I'd be extremely disappointed if Pokemon Stars looked like this would be a severe understatement.

I think its nice, Pokemon Stars will def look good.

But a real HD Pokemon will of course have to look better, at least on par with the new Zeruda.
