Forums - Gaming Discussion - Fighting game rosters: the smaller the better! Tekken 7 rant!

So I loved Tekken 3, was the first fighting game I played, still love it to today.

I enjoyed its simplicity, but looking at Tekken 7, it just doesn't move me. Who are all these characters?

Just give me a smaller roster, where characters all feel unique. Kuma and Panda are basically the same character with a different skin.

I also dislike how busy and overdesigned some of them look, like they come from a generic JRPG.

I don't mind new characters and a larger roster, as long as they play differently and have a unique story.

Also Kuma/Panda were always together in all of the games just different skins. Don't think this will be any different now.

Sillyness, " I dont know these characters. Take them out!"

If you stopped following Tekken its your fault. The only characters anybody following Tekken should be unfamiliar with are the ones announced for this installment. It was just announced that for this installment Kuma and Panda are seperate characters, but on the flip side, clone characters have been in Tekken since the original. Nothing different there.

I will admit I not happy with amount of Anime based characters/fighting styles. Anime is invading everything in Japan right now.

I remember my first real exposure to Tekken with Tekken Tag - so many characters I didn't know, but it was fun as hell unlocking all of them. Smaller roster means you can learn how to read your opponent faster, but a bigger one is more fun with friends IMO.

I am the opposite - I hate how character rosters are getting smaller. I was not at all a fan of the 16-person roster for SFV when even vanilla SFIV for consoles had 25. MvC3 also had less characters than MvC2 and from rumours MvCI will have even less!

I dont mind smaller, balanced rosters btw, just your reasoning for it is ridiculous.

I mean in Tekken 3 every character felt different, like Eddy Gordo, no one like him. Everyone felt unique to play which is why it's so fun.

Fast forward to today, many new characters feel the same, with little variations here and different animations there.

I'm just a casual playa, posting observations from my POV.

So people are now complaining that they want less content for their money?wtf?

When was the last time you seriously played Tekken? Its sounds like your speaking from the sidelines and not on the field.

Not applicable here.

The amount of characters has nothing the depth content. KoF15 has 50 fighters but is very bare bones on everything else. More does not equal better. Period.
