Forums - Politics Discussion - Fidel Castro is dead at 90.

Had come to believe that old fossil would never die. Curious to see what happens when his brother kicks the bucket.

Might have to drive down to Miami and join in the festivities.

Chile is Capitalist as fuck and beats it in both ranks you posted, stats can be used either way

Oh, and what "capitalist" latin america do you mean, Bolivia? Venezuela? Ecuador?

yeah capitalist like 99% of the rest of the world, there are a lot more capitalist countries who are poorer than Cuba. Chile is barley richer and its only dueto the copper production. Venezuela is lso doing better than the average latin american countries.

Please stop.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I have no respect for dictators and especially not for one who almost started a nuclear war in order to hold onto power. Thankfully the Americans and Soviets did not entertain the will of a madman.

Another one bites the dust.

Venezuela has so many problems that it isn't funny. Basically they are fucked.

I wonder how many people who support Cuba government here (or anywhere for that matter) have actually been to Cuba. People say "don't believe what the media says" yet they use the same media to support their arguments.

I was in Cuba 5 years ago, and let me tell you the situation there is bad for the most part. I din't go to places the government told me to go, I went to the small towns and places and talk to the real citizens and they told me their side of the story (which is the real, most important side really).

Yes, health is free; a Cuban citizen can go to the doctor and get check, but you know what happens next? You can't find medicine unless you pay an absurd amount of money (which most don't have); I actually saw this, I fell down while walking on the street and I went to a pharmacy to get a band-aid, when I got to the "pharmacy" (can't barely be called that), almost all the stands were empty, I asked the guy in charge for a band-aid, and in the most funny and really sad moment, he told: "I haven't seen a band-aid in almost 10 years!", this is no joke; he gave me a piece of cotton with a tape.

Yes, you can get free education; but at what cost? You can't say anything bad about the government, and I mean ANYTHING; if someone knows you were talking bad about the government even in the slightest, say goodbye to your education forever; people told me stories that because one guy dislikes the other, he told an official he or she talked bad about the president and got suspended from their studies; and (according to the one who told me the story), the guy in question never said anything bad, there's very little investigation done.

People are not dying of hunger, but is not like they have a lot of benefits either; I talked to people who probably eat meat 2 or 3 times a year, and children in the streets were begging for a piece of candy, this latter melted my heart.

People can talk all they want, but I saw the real thing that most people in Cuba experience; and is a very sad situation. There's a reason people risks their life on a boat and cross the ocean instead of staying there.

As a Venezuelan, I just won't show any respect for Castro. Chavez idiolized Cuba, and wanted Venezuela to be like that... if he succeeded, I thank God everyday I wasn't born in Cuba.

Right now, I completely believe Venezuela is one of the worst countries to live in. BUT HEY, APPARENTLY OUR GDP IS PRETTY HIGH, THAT MAKES UP FOR IT, RIGHT?

But no man, let's just wait for Ruler to post a link with some graph. That's a great argument.

Lol, the man was NOT a good leader! People don't float on inner tubes across an ocean with their children to escape a good leader. They don't erupt in celebration when he dies if he was a "good leader".

I always find it amusing that people choose to ignore the overwhelming opinion of those who have escaped Cuba, as if we somehow have more valid information than they and their still-trapped-in-Cuba family members have in regards to the experience of living under Castro's regime.

The simple truth is if we were holding this conversation in Castro's Cuba many of us would likely find ourselves tailed, harassed, and fired from our jobs, and imprisonment would follow if we did not stop discussing and criticizing the regime. That, in my mind, does not a good leader make.

Really, there's a very easy test to see if a leader is a real son of a bitch or not: Did they win 98%+ of the "vote"? If yes (as recently as 2008 Raul won over 99%), then the regime and its leaders are a bunch of oppressive assholes.

His ilk love to post numbers rather than simply asking the people who actually lived it. There's a reason the Cubans in Miami are dancing in the streets right now, and it's not because Castro was a great guy.

Rest in peace.

I said that on the 2nd page...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
