Actually Japan from what I've seen switches faster than other countries. Old platforms die much more quickly once a "successor" is announced/released in Japan (ie: Famicom died very quickly after Super Famicom launch, GBA fizzled out quickly after DS, in the US and Europe it took much longer for a transition, etc. etc. etc.). Probably part of the reason why Nintendo is cautious calling the system a "portable" for now because they don't want 3DS sales to stop right away, particularly in Japan where it's the 3DS' biggest market. |
The ps3 is still getting games released on it in Japan and basically no other country. Same thing happened with the psp, it just hung around for ages.
