I agree the dock shouldn't exist unless it has some kind of function we don't yet know about. There could also have been ways for it to just stream footage to your tv.

the function of the dock, is to dock the switch...

Connect it to the TV, while charging the system, the reason they made it so big is that they wanted it to hide the screen, they didn't wanted to be clear about the switch being an one screen console only.

I know what it's for, I'm saying it's a shaky idea. Hypothetically, if I merely wanted to hide the screen, I could have also simply layed it upside-down on my table.

The screen isn't just hidden though, it is also shut off, likely so that more power can be put towards graphics and charging.

you clearly doesn't understand the point of the dock ... I'm going to explain just one last time, THEY decided to hide the screen when it's plugged in the TV, that has nothing to do with you or what you want.

The Switch needs to plugged in the TV, it's not wireless, the dock connects to the switch through a  usb type C plug, the USB type C does everything in one, charging and sending the signal to the TV.

So when it is plugged to the TV, the screen is shut down, it can't be used, and Nintendo wanted that to be really clear to everybody, so the dock hides the screen.

I know that it is shut off, but I'm not talking about power, I'm talking about the reason why it's being hidden, the reason why they want to be clear that this is not a "second screen" device.

So why couldn't the screen not just shut off without the dock? That can even be done on the Gamepad. As long as we don't know whether or not the dock actually does something useful, my post stands, and I do know perfectly well what the dock's supposed to be for. It's not exactly rocket science. It's also not like I'm advocating dual-screens here, I'm questioning the rime or reasoning Nintendo had with this. It's just a shaky idea that brings a solution to a problem that didn't exist, and apparently it could have have gone perfectly fine without it. Besides, the dock isn't even the only questionable thing/design choice about the Switch but that's another story.

Have mine pre-ordered, sorry, the Wii U was garbage imo.

A really stupid design decision. As with the Wii-U the additional screen creates lots of additional cost and makes the system more expensive, so it cannot compete as a home console because PS4 / X1 can not only be produced cheaper, they are also much faster.

It is really crazy how the slow and outdated Wii-U currently costs almost 100$ more than the much faster PS4, despite being one generation behind in terms of power, Only because of a stupid, heavy, oversized and always out of battery controller that is barely ever used in any game. No wonder the system failed.

And that's why I liked the concept. Just using my pro controller.
