Forums - Microsoft Discussion - How's Xbox Doing? Here Are the Key Takeaways From Microsoft's Earnings

Hardware sales down, game sales up.

Gaming revenue dropped by 5 percent, representing a decrease of $110 million from the same period last year. The downturn was attributed in part to lower Xbox console sales, but helped by stronger game and Xbox Live revenue. Hardware revenue specifically dropped 26 percent, a decrease that Microsoft mainly attributed to fewer consoles sold (Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined) and lower prices of consoles sold. Microsoft no longer shares hard data about how many Xbox consoles it sells.

The better news for Microsoft was that Xbox game sales and revenue from Xbox Live increased 6 percent, though a dollar figure was not provided. The uptick in money derived from Xbox Live was attributed to more Xbox Live transactions and more revenue per transaction.

Around the Network

For a sales site, I'm surprised there wasn't any response.

I mean there isn't really much there which wasn't already known, their consoles are selling a bit more but for less money so it was going to be a loss there and as much people do buy them the sales on xbla are going to be increasing steadily to the point where it will somewhat offset the cost of getting that hardware into homes in the US at least, the thing is though MS have to be considering where they can cut area's of pure loss, much like they did with the phone division they have to see that funds spent in Japan are not yeilding them the sort of return that is needed there.

So it could mean Japanese games aren't coming to the X1... are people buying the system in the US for those games? no they aren't, Fifa, gears, forza halo, cod etc are not coming from JP so the fact that JRPGX isn't on the platform really isn't going to stop the people in the US buying the system for that game I think.

Don't feel bad living metal, regardless that this is a sales sight most only care about the WARZZZZ lol. In seriousness though.....

(Financially) Microsoft continues to print money as a whole and the XBox brand isn't going anywhere.

Sony is slowly beginning to rise financially from the crippling ashes of past mistakes (great for gaming).

Nintendo continues to tread water while maintaining gamer interests/frustrations. The Switch looks promising with positive/negative results to follow.

Thank you for sharing the sales info, regardless.
