Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza Horizon 3 Has at least 1.13m players and at least 600k sales. In less than a month!

I think Forza Horizon increasing with each iteration. This is good news.

I bought my copy digitally. This site is become more irrelevant cuz it only takes estimated retail not including digital is huge. I own two Xbox one s and if I buy digitally I can play on both consoles. So it doesn't make sense to buy physical ever. I usually lurk on this site but most of the comments I can tell wish Xbox's demise. Competition is good and Microsoft has been killing it lately.

The downplay is real with this one. The last Forza game to sell as good as FH3 was FM5 and that was a launch game. FH3 will have legs and could possibly outsell NMS.

If you're talking about me then all I can say is to stop being defensive.  I thought Forza pulled bigger numbers and assumed it was a larger part of the Xbox portfolio based on reviews and being a yearly franchise.  Honestly, I don't see why it wouldn't sell more copies, considering the quality.

I'd love to know how well it's doing on PC and if it's building market-share on that platform.

Froza Horizon is not on a decline

VGC Numbers

- Forza Horizon on Xbox 360 = 2.02m

- Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One 1.37 + 360 0.85m = 2.22m

FH2 120k 1 week NPD sales

FH3 150k 1 week NPD sales

It's currently outpacing the sales of FH2 according to NPD numbers through physical and with FH3 been play anywhere and a ever increasing digital % I see no reason it won't outsell its predecessors.

The Forza games, overall, are on a decline, yes. If we're talking Forza, in general, the series is on a decline. Horizon, by itself, is fairly consistent, however (which the second portion of my post highlights - the part omitted from your response).

The series has been in decline for the past few years but the thing is that Horizon has outsold the other Forza games in the past 3. The past few games have done between 400-600k in 1 month while FH3 had done at least 600k in 2 and a half weeks. That's really impressive for a Forza game. Also the downplay also comes from someone comparing Forza to a game that comes from a much popular genre. I'm referring to primetime comparing Forza to NMS.

Yeah the motorsports game has done better the horizon games but by comparing the new horizon game to the motorsport games and seeing the sales being close or more in favor of horizon says something. For an example with 3 week of tracking FM3 sold 770k while with 2 and a half weeks FH3 has sold over 600k, and the series has been in decline for many years. Its impressive to see the latest game doing so well compared the peak of the series and by saying otherwise would be downplaying.

I agree that it is on a decline (the Motorsport series), and people are free to comment on it. A comparison to NMS is a wrong, yes, but just being shocked about the current state of things isn't necessarily downplaying.

so FH3 did 600k on xb1 in a few weeks while No Man's Sky did 1.17M first week? wow http://www.vgchartz.com/game/84663/no-mans-sky/Global/ so an indie scam game destoryed "the best racing game in the history"??? as some claim WOW

I don't get it. How can a player not be an owner? Is there a demo or something?

Eh, I wouldn't call it downplaying. The franchise is on a sales decline. Relatively speaking, it's not terrible, but its better sales days could potentially stay behind it.

The flip-side to this, however, is people shouldn't compare Horizon to Motosport, as historically, the latter appealed to a larger audience and debuts with larger numbers.

I disagree with your first statement.  Since this is a stronger start than other recent Forza games, doesn't that suggest it's possibly in a rebuilding/resurging phase now, as opposed to in a declining phase?  If Forza Horizon 3 ends up outselling Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Horizon 2 (the two previous games with Forza in the title), as these strong initial sales suggest it might, that would suggest the series did decline but is now in a growth phase again.  All three games were made available on two platforms (Xbox One for FH3 and FM6, and Xbox One and Xbox 360 for FH2) which is why I focused my comparisons against those three.  This is all especially impressive given there's more pressure to get this game digitally now if you own both an Xbox One and a gaming PC (or think you might be getting a gaming PC down the road), even if you picked up previous Forza games on disc.  I imagine FH3 skews significantly more towards digital sales than previous Forza games, and yet its first week sales still outsold FH2 (and FM6?)

I agree with your second statement (comparing Horizon vs. Motorsport makes little sense), but I would add that I believe sim driving/racing games are in decline as we speak, whereas I'm not sure the same is currently true of arcade racers.

That's a very nice number. 600+k in 2 weeks is pretty good. I'm personally waiting for Black Friday as I have a big backlog already, but it'll be the first time I pick up a Forza game. The really high reviews ought to interest new players like myself and contribute to the growth of the IP.

I got the original Xbox 360 Forza Horizon recently through Games with Gold.  I'm now going to purchase Forza Horizon 2 and FH3 digitally the next time each of them goes on sale (unless I end up not being able to wait that long).  I was a big fan of Metropolis Street Racer (MSR) on the Dreamcast, and Project Gotham Racing (PGR) on the Xbox/Xbox 360.  I had no idea how awesome the Forza Horizon series is!  I've been missing out for the last four years.  I believe Forza Horizon is what PGR would have evolved into had the series continued and gone open-world.  If they'd called it PGR Horizon I would have got it when it came out, but until I played it through Games with Gold I simply didn't understand.  The game is amazing: you can customize it to be more arcadey, or more sim-like.  The physics are extremely sold.  The game is beautiful, controls well, and has tonnes and tonnes of things to do.  The popularity system is essentially exactly like the Kudos-system from MSR/PGR.  Best of all, being open world you can pursue those things that you enjoy and ignore those things you don't (unlike in PGR where advancing required doing most/all of the challenges, whether they interested you or not).  I'm really, really kicking myself for missing out on Forza Horizon all these years!  Putting Forza in the title confused me as I'm not into sim-racers, but that's not what this is.  I knew Horizon was different than Motorsport, but I didn't realize how different.  I've got a lot more to accomplish in FH1 right now, so I'll keep playing that until one of the other two go on sale or I run out of things to do in FH1 (whichever comes first).  Down the road, Forza Horizon 4 will be a day 1 buy for me.  To say I'm hooked is an understatement!
