Is that message "hey don't repeatedly lie through your teeth about your game leading up to release"? Because if so, then mission fucking accomplished :)

No the message is play it safe dont try and be different. At no point during the hype building of NMS was I under the impression it would be anything other than what i ended it up being. Which is what is confusing me about the hate the game got. An indie dev can only ever do so much.

And yet, indie devs will still be pretty much the only ones taking risks and not playing it safe. And unlike Hello Games, most of these indie devs can do so, and promote their games honestly. And yeah, hindsight is always 20/20. It's real easy to sit now and say you always knew Murray was exaggerating the games features, lying about them, "just so gosh darn passionate!", whatever you wanna call it. Either way, it doesn't change what happened.

Maybe he is in jail now. Who knows. :P

I just got the image of Sean Murray telling his huge angry cellmate about the 14 quintillion planets in No Mans Sky.lol

He's hiding on one of those 14 quintilion planets.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

I don't believe he ever intended to mislead anyone, he just massively underestimated the responsibility that comes with promoting a product. regardless, whether it's through malice or incompetence, one needs to try and make things right when one has fucked up, not just hide under a rock.
I understand it must be hard to make a move when you can feel the searing waved of hatred come at you from all corners of the web, but just a sign they're committed to fixing this mess would be nice.

Not posting on Twitter =/= in hiding. They have a PR team now, he isn't the voice of the studio anymore.

Whats with the ridiculous threads today, right?

I haven't tweeted in years. I must be a hermit in hiding! Logic!

It's like idiocracy is becoming true.

I don't think he intended to mislead people. I think he was extremely naive. I think misleading people was something they didn't really think too much about. But I am glad this happened. Developers need more kicks in the ass. They are way too comfortable with misleading gamers.

Yes this sort of thing happens all the time, and I believe people should be outraged every time it happens. I'm pretty sure it only happened here because of the hype surrounding the game. Then the epic let down that it wasn't really even a fun game.

Everybody reacts differently to promotional content.

Im not saying i knew he was exagerrating - I'm saying i dont think he exagerated and at no point did i feel mislead. Just because the "majority" of the gaming community has jumped on this bandwagon does not mean i need to as well.

Wouldn't even call it "promotional content", it's just a steady stream of one lie after another. Promotional content is supposed to promote what you are selling. He was promoting some game other than No Man's Sky.

Idk what to tell you if you can read interviews from a guy talking about grand space battles, deep dialogue, a whole faction system, and multiplayer and not feel mislead when the actual game has zero of that content but luckily most gamers disagree and we can hold liars accountable for stuff like this so that other developers learn :)

El chapo probably got him

Thats cool if you feel that way. I disagree. I felt the content that was shown is exactly what you ended up getting. I dont believe there was any malice or deliberate misleading during the promotion of the game. We can agree to disagree i guess.

Clearly the same.

And they were telling lies about the MP even after the game was out. Pretty clear and cut misleading advertising done to drum up sales. Sean, is that you? I can see someone saying maybe they were still satisfied with what they got, or that they can understand why Sean would feel the need to lie, but to say what they showed us is what we got, and there was no deliberate misleading is just.. beyond logic.
