Bethesda Hasn’t Given Up Yet On Getting Mod Support For PS4

Earlier this year we learned that mod support for the PlayStation 4 versions of both Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition had been canceled, though this had nothing to do with Bethesda. The problem was with Sony’s policies with releasing unfinished content or content that cannot be quality checked by Sony to the PlayStation Store, which unsurprisingly upset a lot of fans.

While the prospects of mod support being added to the PlayStation 4 versions of these games doesn’t seem like it’s happening anytime soon, Bethesda definitely hasn’t given up PS4 gamers yet. Bethesda’s Pete Hines was recently responding to several fans on Twitter about the lack of mod support on PS4, and when someone pointed out some alternatives, he replied with “I assure you we don’t lack for alternatives. We are trying to do the most possible for PS4 players.”

So, it looks like Bethesda has some other options that they may be trying to make work with Sony in the near future when it comes to mod support, but Hines did not detail what those alternatives were.

Fallout 4 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, though The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition will launch on October 28th for the same platforms.

Good for Bethesda, but I'm sure Sony won't budge, at least, for the time being.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

It might be the unreal tournament 3 approach of putting the mod on a USB and putting it on the ps4

I wonder if people actually care. Mods are not really a thing that any console gamer ever needed on a console.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm good for any way they do it, as I want those mods. The problem with Sony's stance is that, while understandable, it's very inconsistent in practice. How can something like Atom Universe, which constantly crashes and kicks me out about thirty seconds in, be considered finished while the fallout mods are unacceptable? Sony allows other mods on the system.

Had nothing to do with Bethesda? lol. Good one.

Mods, an obsolete relic of the past.

Hunting Season is done...

If they really care about their Playstation consumers of which have bought fallout 4 in their droves, they will release a ps4 pro patch. Now that I'd actually give a shit about. We'll see how for their players bethesda really are when the Pro launches. I still have faith in them.

See, mods would be great now more than ever before. With both the ps4pro and x1 scorpio, modders can improve the graphics and make the game look awesome. Its silly not to have it if xbox has it imo

Yeah, I mean, assuming this is about quality control, then I can easily understand Sony's position.  Probably a good 25% of mods on PC are adult in nature and would not be allowed on either of the consoles.  So, what if some immature fanboy for the competition wants to steal a PC mod with naked girls in bondage and upload it to Bethesda.net under the title "AWESOME NEW POWER ARMOR"?  It would be reported and taken down but what if Fox News wanted to run a story on it?  What if someone wanted to sue over it?

I'm not going to pretend I don't understand why they would shy away from that.

That being said, they can't win this way, either, not after Microsoft has already allowed it on their end.  Right now, it's unfair as hell to Playstation customers, considering how many amazing mods there are out there that add a LOT to the game.  Sure, much of that is stuff that Bethesda should have had in the game to start with but that's immaterial at this point.  The improvements mods can offer to the game are substantial.

Sony really needs to bite the bullet and make this happen.

If Bethesda are going to take more cracks at getting it sorted, then Sony needs to work with them all the way, or they won't get anywhere at all.
