Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft-Developed Xbox Scorpio Games Will Run Natively at 4K

Fair enough. Not verbally confirmed, but the video of the GPU board Microsoft showed has 12 memory chips visible.

Not many more conclusions one  could draw given the 320Gb/S bandwith. 12GB and 384bit bus is match as per DF.

If Microsoft is being influenced by your claim a bunch of whiny PlayStation fanboys, then Microsoft was pretty pathetic to fall under their influence based on your logic.  In FACT, owners of the original Xbox have bragged over the fact that the original Xbox was able to output 720p and 1080i resolutions over the PlayStation2.  When you pull stuff out of your ass, it stinks.  Obviously, It looks like you've acclimated to it.

I don't recall Microsoft execs/PR EVER advertising better resolution like Sony has done this generation via social media and whatever else.  Resolution shouldn't be a big deal, but a certain group of people made sure the Xbox One got shit on because of it.  Now we have to sit back and watch MS talk resolution crap about its new console as the internet has deemed it important when it comes to consoles, via Xbox One resolution jokes.

MS have multiple times this gen said the difference wouldn't be visible and that it was impossible that PS4 were 30-50% more powerfull than X1. They were the ones talking about power the whole gen, sony barely even talk about it or MS, so stop pretending.

And what group are you talking about? The ones that talked about 20 pixel difference last gen?

Higher resolutions suddenly don't matter anymore :P

For real though, I can't expect them to maintain stable framerates... unless the games are incredibly optimized.

They do matter, if you can deliver. When you have 1440p with low taxing upscaling versus 4k native of the same game you can either expect fps issues or low effects. The first one is almost sure thing when fps is almost always brought at 30fps on the stronger hw/lowest res. So we can expect fps on Scorpio to be lower if they push for higher res, same with the effects.

Developer systems often have more Ram than is needed due to well... Development.
They could have been testing various configurations as well, which is also perfectly normal.

Fact of the matter is, untill we hear it out of the horses mouth, assume it's all rumors rather than fact.

A rumor is hearsay.

I simply saw what i saw , and am making an educated guess based on the visual and verbal information shown. Digital Foundry reached that  conclusion.

There would be no point in MS doing a sizzle reel with developers, how they helped shape the specs for Scorpio, and show a  board not representative of the hardware they are pitching. They showed the board and said 320 GB/S of bandwidth for a reason. I'll be shocked if its not the case, because no other memory  configuration makes sense with 12 memory chips on that board. We know they aren't going for 6GB, and we sure as hell know they are not using HBM.

Those are likely mockups, the console is still a year away from being launched and hardware specifications may change in order to reduce costs or increase performance, at this stage only very early development systems will exist and those are typically using hardware that is different from the final device.

In my opinion having 12 memory chips is an odd thing to do, AMD has typically always kept to powers-of-two configurations. (I.E. 2, 4, 8Gb etc'.)

Not to mention we have no idea how that memory will be allocated either or if all those chips are even all dram. (They could be off-chip sram.)

I think you forgot about how most gamers this gen boosted on how the PS4 was 50% more powerful than XB1 and that anything under 1080p is last gen. I remember it.

All the chips show equidistant copper traces to the main chip, so its no longshot to come to the conclusion that they are all operating under the same bandwidth. I don't expect them not to use a unified memory pool.

If that is a mock-up, that's a mighty finely detailed one. JUst saying.  Yes, lots can change, but even from the first pic they are giving you a pretty good idea of the board size/layout and possible perimeter of the console as well.

Sony have been hyping there specs of there platforms since the PS2 days. Even after the Gamecube and Xbox releases they still sent out attacks and bragged about there Emotion Engine. Do i need to explain the Cell processor? Before the PS4 was even launched, Sony was hyping up 1080p / 60 frames graphics.

http://www.inquisitr.com/1159063/ps4-1080p-native-resolution-lie/

Where do you think there fans get there ammo?

Well, looks like Penello slipped a bit.

First when suggested that XBO would have more memory, he remained passive.

Second , his slip :" Albert Penello: Yeah. We had to pick a number. Why did you choose six teraflops? Why did you choose 384Gb/s in memory bandwidth? What's the point of those numbers? The point of those numbers was to deliver Xbox One-quality games in 4K. That's the point of those numbers. But we're not going to dictate to developers that that's how they have to use that power."

The bandwidth is 320GB/S.....not 384 , that number is a typical bus size used by AMD's big chips.

Looks like he slipped. 320GS/S + 384bit bus....with 6 memory modules on the board = 12GB GDDR5 . Wowza!
