Forums - Sony Discussion - Ghostbusters could lose Sony $70 million

KLXVER said:

Sony disputes the amount of the potential loss, insisting that revenue streams from merchandising and such attractions as a new Ghostbusters exhibit at Madame Tussauds and a theme park ride in Dubai will help defray any deficit. The studio also notes that the number of people renting the 1984 film has soared over the summer.

"This loss calculation is way off," says the Sony rep. "With multiple revenue streams, including consumer products, gaming, location-based entertainment, continued international rollout, and huge third-party promotional partnerships that mitigated costs, the bottom line, even before co-financing, is not remotely close to that number."

Will probably never get a sequel though...

Yet internet people will ignore this because it doesn't fit their agenda and hatred for the movie and feminism. No surprise here.

Social Justice Warriors, Feminazism, the Sodomite Agenda, it is all dying as the Obama era finally gets to a end. Good ridance.

Sure. Let's make this about Obama of all things. Thankfully Trump will save us all now that his era is coming to an end.

The break even point is a lot more then $300 million dollars since they also spend $100 million in advertising the movie.

How do we know this exactly? Have they announced it or is it one of the many numbers flying around from "experts"?

Good news really. Most (if not all) reboots should crash and burn.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Before I read any reviews I watched a trailer and I was already not excited by what I was shown there, so it really seems they made the worst-possible reboot with this movie, which sucks, cuz I loved the original movie!

Ghostbusters will go down in history as adding to the "How not to promote a film" bullet point list. Notably, it will add "Don't get Social Justice Workers involved", as an extension of "Don't insult the fans" and "Don't promote a political agenda". It seems other than the awful trailer, the only promotion the producers have done for this film is to start massive flamewars on Twitter.

What put me off seeing Ghostbusters was the trailer. I only watched the original once and liked it, and honestly seeing an all female team wasn't an issue in my book. However what was an issue was the bad EDM remix of the classic synth-pop theme, the constant jumps between clips like a Michael Bay trailer, and the Patty Tolan character.

Sure, the movie may be Feminist and anti-misogynist, but it's also casually racist. Patty Tolan is almost every single stereotype about African Americans bundled up into one character. It's like the producers got her to be a caricature of a black woman (like some comedians do) but left out the comedy. I found it uncomfortable to watch her blunder around in the trailer, which is why I passed on the film.

Stop ruining my childhood hollywood

I never understood the logic behind this statement, but how can sony ruin your childhood?

Good. It's an awaful movie. But why is this thread in videogames?

Hunting Season is done...

And yet Hollywood wants to make a female remake of Ocean's Eleven...

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who doesn't know, care or pay attention to which company made whatever movie I've either seen or have intentions of seeing.

If not for the internets extreme interest in Sony being attached to this I'd of never known Sony made this film.  I find that odd.
