Forums - Gaming Discussion - Reviews should be on the standard console versions rather than NEO/Scorpio

With the upcoming NEO and Scorpio consoles on the horizon I say that reviewers should always review the standard X1/PS4 copy of the game. Obviously if their is a signicicant difference between the Base model and the upgraded console version graphic or frame rate wise publishers will likely try to push out review copies with a catch of reviewing on the newest hardware as leverage or you won't recieve a pre-release copy to review.

I think the review sites should always stick to reviewing on the hardware that existed from the start of the generation and if they need to add in notes at the end the technical side of what to expect from the higher spec version or if they mention about frame dips etc in the review people playing on the higher spec console can take note that they would likely not have the frame dips etc.

Not all reviewers detail graphics and technical sides in a review of a game but I still feel it should be played and reviewed on the baseline hardware.

Is it just me who thinks this? Opinions?

i think a bulk of the review should be on the game of which is the same on ps4 or neo. it shouldn't matter which version is played.

when reporting technical issues (framerates ect) it should be tested on both version and reported accordingly.

Things shouldnt change?

Im okay with them showing Scorpio and Neo versions.

I agree, that way you know that if you're a neo/scorpion owner that your version is what the review says but better, that way it avoids the dissappointment and disagreement of it, say, running at 1080p 60fps.

Agreed! If a game on the Ps4/x1 runs like a slideshow but on the Neo/Scorpio runs at 30fps and the reviewers review the Neo/Scorpio versions, then it won't reflect the type of experience that regular users are having.

Then again, I am wondering how its gonna work then. Both Neo and Scorpio are code names so neither will be the actual names but they are also both iterative and not the "next gen" consoles. PC for example, gets one review for the game regardless of hardware configuration so will Neo/Scorpio get the same? It certainly looks like a lot more work for the reviewers, thats for sure.

Ideally there should be a review of every version of the game. But yeah, if they had to choose, they should always go with the "basic" model.God, I find this mid generation upgrade so stupid.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

If you're not ready for multiple reviews of different versions of the game, just wait until you see video comparison of all 5, PS4/Neo/XB1/Scorpio/PC :P

There's not gonna be a lot of difference between the consoles so it shouldn't hurt for every reviewer to first take the old version and then check out what's better in the new version.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

They should probably have a review for each version. Going to make the reviewer's life unpleasant.
