Forums - General Discussion - Chinese washing detergent turns a black man into an Asian man.

Would it still be racist if he were white?

Still racist. 104 40.00%

Not racist. 86 33.08%

Not racist enough. 70 26.92%

Total:260

LOL, I found the commercial funny. Hope I don't get persecuted for it though ...

The reason why chinese people are more open about showing more things with negative racial connotations is because they didn't go around oppressing/segregating large amounts of Africans or go Eric Cartman over a particular religious group in the last 100 years so their less guilty and sensitive about those social issues ...

From what I can understand of the ad, this announces some detergent for coloured clother, with the tagline "Coloured is better", so they put a person of colour. I'm not sure what the pun is on the chinese version.

The detergent is so strong it cleans all black stains.

Well the reverse, an italian add in which a white man turn black was conidered "fun" back in the days. This chinese ad is just took some inspiration from it.

To be racist you have to actually be a racist and mean what you say. A lot of people forget that when flinging around the -ism words. Racism is the thought that certain races are by nature inferior to yours. If you don't think that then you're not a racist and as such you cannot be racist.

If you prefer around to be white people you're not automatically a racist. Preferring one thing does not mean hating the other. That's why this commercial is not racist unless that was the intent of the producers.

Iis nice to know there is another person who understands what the word  "racism"   means.    The word is used in the place of "prejudice",

'preference", and a variety of other manners that does not fit the meaning.  I seee the word "racisim used far more often improperly than it s used properly. As strong a word as "racisim" is, it should not be used improperly.

Most people (IMO and experience) are not racist, but virtually all people are prejudice in some form or fashion-  When the words/definitions get confused, people get acused of something they are often not guilty of

It's like people being called pedophiles when they find the body of a 17 year old sexy.

As you get older, it is often  very difficult to tell the difference in a 15 year old girl, a  17 year old girl an 18 year old or even a 25 yr old  (by physical appearance) _ i just assume they are all young untill or unless i know otherwise-    Most men and women would think an attractive 17 year old of the opposite sex is well "attractive" from a purely physical point of view-  does not mean they want to sleep w them and def does not mean they are pedo's      There are many fashion models that are 17 and  often younger that are paid big $$ to sell a variety of products in main stream mags/other media to older consumers  every day even though htye are made to look older

The black guy was attractive af, what is wrong with that woman.

I'm now filled with determination.

Even if they were saying that it turns things from Black to White... that guy who comes out of the machine isn't exactly ... White ya know? Like if they go with a simple reasoning of... "well we just wanted to show our product would remove any colour" well... the Advert doesn't show that because which the guys shirt comes out very white, his skin is very much not white, they should have got WWE's Sheamus if they wanted pure white.

Fellah.... etc.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I've read what people say in 9gag that this was just a parody of the european advert.
