Not at all, Zelda is definitely delayed because NX launch, I am pretty sure Zelda si almost finished and they just polishing it now and waiting for NX release. Remember, in December 2014. they said it will be released in 2015.

But they themselves said the NX was delayed from late 2016 to early 2017 because they wanted to make sure it had good enough software in it's launch window. If Zelda wasn't going to be ready until around then, that is probably why they delayed it. Zelda is huge, and not just for sales. It's a word of mouth kind of game and it makes the press and critics give it a lot more attention than they would have if they only had something niche like Pikman 4 or Diddy Kong Racing 2 or something.

What if they have finished Zelda U/NX already, and they are just working on other game?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

They never said they delayed NX. They need more time to prepare NX games, but that doesn't mean they needed more time specifically for Zelda, like I wrote, I am certain that only reason why Zelda is delayed from 2016 is NX launch, I am pretty sure Zelda si almost finished and they just polishing it now and waiting for NX release.

So in June 2015 Miyamoto stated in an interview that they had footage ready for Zelda U that could be shown at E3 but Nintendo decided to not show it because they wanted to make shure that what was shown could meet the actual possibilities of the Wii U, now that we know that Zelda U is coming also to NX I think it's pretty obvious what was going on at the time: Nintendo focused development solely on the NX version, so they couldn't show the Wii U version because it was "early" in development and they weren't shure what kind of graphics they could get on a less powerful hardware, this is also supported by the fact that the Wii U version isn't coming out this holliday season: that's because it isn't ready, while the NX version most likely is almost done!

That's not how development generally works with two platforms of different capabilities. One has to first program for the weaker platform, as it is easier and possible to migrate the code to the stronger platform and begin improving the experience.

If you maximize for the stronger platform, though, memory restrictions and such mean that attempting to port it to weaker hardware generally requires a complete reprogramming of the game.

If they're delaying it's probably to try and best alter the Wii U game (including those parts that require the gamepad) to fit the parameters of the Nx while maximizing the visuals.

Where'd you get these rumors from?

All over the internet. The rumor appears at the first delay on March 2015. Of course, the real reason was the NX version as some pointed since the first time.

I personally don't think they ever had any intention of releasing it a ways back. What they showed a couple years ago was pretty but, in my mind, perfectly reflected a game that was about two to three years from release.

It would make sense that the game would seem somewhat empty at that time, as anyone who has played an alpha or even early beta version of a game (and with Steam that's a pretty common experience now) will tell that really fleshing out the world with content happens fairly late in the process.

Even if those rumors didn't exist, I believed the same about the game following the footage they showed. That was a world with great potential that needed time to develop, and I'm glad they've had that time.

Rumors still.

Which can be answered by looking at E3. Why wouldn't the NX be there if it was only a software issue? Games can be shown off at almost any stage in development (Splatoon was 10% when first revealed), consoles however can't.

I think they may be hoping to show an avalanche of cool thinks at once immediately preceding the sale to generate some interest, as if they show it all now it will be old news by the time the holidays are over (and they would still have not sold a thing).

Pretty much the only reason they gave for delaying the Nx past the holidays is that they wanted a strong launch library referencing a lesson they learned from the Wii U, so it's impossible to know what games they're buying extra time for. Either way, Zelda would be delayed so as to provide a game many will want from day 1 on the Nx. Whether Zelda is the game that CAUSED the delay or is merely delayed because some other game wasn't ready, we cannot say.

Personally though, I'm very excited. If you consider both that the only game we even know of is the Zelda game that's not even an exclusive and that they've openly stated their focus is on a quality launch library, there would appear to be a great deal of games that will be released as soon as q1 of next year that have not even been announced yet.

Immediately preceding, as in what, 3 months to a day before launch? That's really a good idea and 9 months is really too soon? Wouldn't Zelda be one of if not the biggest part of that avalanche, yet they're showing it at E3 without the NX, and we all know the NX version will be the primary one. Zelda is also the only thing being shown there. That tells me they most certainly wanted to bring NX to E3, but since they can't, this is the next best thing they can do to hype up the NX.

Then this makes me mad if the only thing they can do since Dec 2011 o Jun 2014 is just that 15 seconds teaser.
