Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony expects to Sell 20 million PS4 in current Fiscal Year (Apr 2016 - Mar 2017)

I was personally predicting 19-20 million this fiscal year. I'm honestly kind of surprised they're actually forecasting 20 million themselves. They clearly have faith in PSVR and Neo if it releases this year. I expect a price cut during the holidays as well.

They ll probably beat their forecast, again.

Like last year they forecast about 16m sales, and did 17.7m.

It looks better to come out with PR that says "we beat expectations", so those guys always kinda lowball things abit.

from 400-349$ -> 299$, and PS4k (neo) (repeat buyers), PS VR (gimmick that ll sell PS4 to some casuals that want to try VR),...

This year is def. going to be up from lasts of 17.7m.

GTSports & Uncharted 4, might move some hardware too.

This year is a 20m+ year.

If you combine the PS3, PSNEO, PSP and PSVita then it will definitely reach it!

The PS4 which shipped 17.7 million in FY15 will need all those consoles to reach 20 million in FY16?

Nope it doesn't but it might fall short too. But if we comebine these sony products then YES! It will reach it!

If it did 17.7m last year.

And its up like 10% yoy..... that alone should put it at around 19.5m (17.7m+10%)

Now throw in Uncharted 4, GTSports.

And a new PS4k (Neo) (repeat PS4 buyers) and the price drops for the normal model.

PS VR might attract some users, that would otherwise not get a PS4, for the novelity of it effect (like the Wii had).

You really dont think that PS4 is selling more than 20m this year?

Definitly another low ball figure from Sony. PS4 is going to enter unseen territoy for consoles this year, and it will only get bigger in the years to come.

PlayStation Vue is going to continue to expand this year, adding many new channels and networks, while also expanding to other devices. That will be a huge push for PS4 in the US, as people quickly shift from cable to IPTV.

Then you have PlayStation VR, and this thing is going to be Wii on steroids. People are already being extreamly impressed with simple things like Gear VR and Google Cardboard. PSVR will bring a whole new experience like the masses have never seen, and at a price point they can afford.
Additionally, VR is going far beyond gaming. Sony has already stated they are taking the gloves off with PSVR, and they are opening up the market place to something much more similar to the App Store and Google Play. They want to be the defacto home for VR, and they are not putting up any road blocks in the path to getting there.

On the game front, they already dropped Uncharted 4. They also have the biggest 1st party franchise in PlayStation coming in the form of GT Sport. These are the big guns for them, but they also have a great lineup from 3rd parties as well. FFXV, Battlefield 1, COD+COD:Remastered, and No Man's Sky just to name a few. Then we have to take into account the PSVR titles, which will sell greaat, and even potentially better than any of the games listed above when it's all said and done.

Finally, we have the not yet confirmed, but all but confirmed, PlayStation Neo. Love it or hate it, PSNeo is going to move as many units as they can produce if it is real. If they can push 6 million PS Neo's to the market this holiday, and they continue to produce the OG PS4, we could see in excess of 10M consoles shipped in Q3 alone (October - December in Sony's reports).

I've been saying this from day one, and I will say it again. PS4 will reach a userbase far beyond any console we have seen in the past. This is going to be the device that puts Sony into the same space as Google, Apple, and Microsoft. There will be 500M active PlayStation users in the near future. PlayStation has become Sony's ecosystem, and it will expand beyond the Home console in the next few year's. Like the old saying goes, "You ain't seen nothing yet".

I was against psvue at first but I finally tried the free trial and wow, I love it.  I did the math and it canceled everything but Internet which they discounted for me and ended up on track to save over $700 this year.  Then that savings increased because Sony implemented a $10 price drop for vue!  Who does actual price drops anymore?

I love the service and the features it has.  My wife loves the app to watch tv on my he iPad.

My only complaint it they need to hurry and get licensing worked out so two ps4's can use it simultaneously and subs.  You can use ps4 & PS3 & iPad but not two ps4's.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

Very nice number for PS4 if it can achieve it.

As for the rest of the numbers released today.... well, stock will fall further again on this news but in the long run its fine. Mobile is dying... give it up.

yes i think apple are the only company these days that making money with the mobile business imo

Should be "easy" to achieve. Neo will push sales (even many who already own a PS4 will buy it), the "normal" PS4 will get a price cut, PS VR will help to sell consoles and with Uncharted 4 + GT Sport + whatever else it's the first year where they also have some first party exclusives which people really care about to buy a console for.

Oh, and going off the notes to the slide, the revenue and OI numbers I'd expect any price cut to be small.

Well, NEO won't be cheap and will help to retain a decent average price even with a price cut for the "normal" PS4.
