I think that's an exaggeration.  I don't know if lack of focus is what I would call it, but I definitely see a strain on resources.  Nintendo is doing a LOT of things at the same time.  Rapid expansion and diversification does come at costs.

Any attempt at improving brand recognition is a good thing, especially when one considers what a low priority brand recognition has been for them since the beginning of the current gen...
By no means is this a good substitute for good games, but recent attempts at getting their properties out there might suggest they've actually learned a thing or two in the past few years...
Having said that, it's more likely that I'm just talking out of my ass...

This is EXACTLY how you start branding yourself subliminally. Ramp up the product placement in other markets for a few months, remind people why Nintendo is awesome, and then watch as the money rolls in as you release your new console to your old, resurging fanbase.

Damn I think I would get the NES one just because it has a basic enough design to be worn in public without looking too obvious. I would love a Splatoon one with just some paint splatters!
