I just bought a new pc and want to hook it up to my 47" tv.

In the old days I used a vga cable with a dvi adapter on my old tv but it has an awful resolution of 1366 x something . and would like it to go to FHD

I have the following connections:

Tv: hdmi,  scart and all the various audio inputs

Pc: display port and dvi.

So what do I need exactly to get to FHD?  :)

You can buy a DVI to HDMI cable. And there is no actual conversion of the signal, so you literally get the same image as if you had an HDMI port on your PC. The only thing that this won't do is sound, so you'll need to handle the speaker setup some other way.

Thanks. But I heard from comparisons sites that that means hdmi limits the framerate or hz? Or something.

Not really sure what you mean from that, but I can only speak from experience.  I have personally used one of these cables and have maintained a 1080p 60fps gaming performance.  My TV was 60hz, so I can't comment on anything higher.

display port to hdmi cable. buy that, im using same. its like 5 bucks on amazon. supports full hd.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll get both just to hook up some other devices aswell and to test out the difference. It's not like they cost a fortune anyways. :)

You want displayport to HDMI as that carries audio as well. DVI to HDMI only caries video signal.

Is there a way to get 24p output the way you guys are suggesting?

Of course if the TV supports it which most modern 1080p TVs do.
