So I saw some threads here that are hoping for a great launch lineup for NX to be sucsessfull. I wont say great games are completly unimportant, but they definitly arnt as important as many peopke might think. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, F-Zero and co wont do it alone.

The Wii U prooved that even with some great exclusives (smash4, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and co) the system cant sell well enough. The main reason might be that Nintendos IP arnt THAT interesting anymore. New Games/IP like Witcher got alot mass attention now, the times zelda was the ultimative adventures are sadly over. There is a strong competition now.

So what do I think NX needs:

1. Crossplay

Very important. So many people getting a Ps4 to play online together with their friends games like the division, destiny, call of duty, battlefront and co. Scince most peope will still go for one console/gen, not many will get a NX when half of theirs friends already own a Ps4 (because they couldnt play togehter). Crossplay will fix that issue.

2. No casual gimmick

The Wii was great for its time. But we are in 2016/2017 and casuals wont buy a console anymore to play videogames. They are okay with their smartphones, smarttvs and co. The NX needs to be made for the "core audience".

3. Beeing more an OS then a closed system

Like iOS, so Nintendo can release more powerfull hardware later alongside with Ps5/xbox sucsessor and wont be underpowerd again. Old games will still be playable and new games can even be played at low resolution and low details on the 2017 Hardware.

4. Merge Handheld and Home Console

Nintendo sold so far 62mio 8th gen consoles (3ds/wii u combined). That big number would make NX very attractive for third party publisher, ports will be way more likely. If you merge HH and HC, Nintendo can not only safe own development ressources but also expand their userbase.

5. Get Third Party Support

No matter what great exclusives Nintendo can produce, without third party support a console now a days is already doomed. Especially games like Fifa, Call of Duty, GTA, Star Wars, witcher and co are extremly important.

You do know that Sony would have a say in the whole crossplay thing too...right?

Sure but so far sonys latest statement was they are ok with crossplay in general.

If its  a problem, they need at least to make sure crossplay between NX and PC will be possible.

If it has a standard controller and is as powerfull- or more powerfull then the xbox one I will be more then happy to buy it as a second console next to my PS4.

Think about it. What if Nintendos online service is free?

the wii us problem wasnt the fact that it was a horrible second console. It was perfect as a 2nd console next to a ps4/pc/xbone (because the lacking third party support didnt matter). But it needs to be a perfect 1. console to be sucsessfull.

so? Pc online is free as well and rocket league player can play ps4 vs pc as well. 

If their online is free AND it would support cross play that would be a perfect advantage over the ps4.

and Sony would be ok with that you think? I doubt it.

they are okay with pc - ps4 crossplay as well (street fighter 5, Final Fantasy 14, Rocket league) so i guess yes.

If they are not nintendo could play an easy game with saying they wanted to implement it but sony rejected it (so sony is the bad guy). They could still offer it for pc and maybe even xbox one (if microsoft will be okay) which will seperate sony in the long run as the only current gaming device that wont work with the competition while NX, PC and Xbox player could all play togehter (that could also help the xbox). So i doubt sony woud reject it tbh.

Nintendo seems to be held to a different standard. The NX needs to do something the PS4 and XB1 doesnt do in order to be successful it seems.
