"It was on March 22, 1996, that we first opened those mansion doors to a whole new genre of video games. Since then, the series has sold over 66 million copies worldwide and spawned six major game releases, as well as several spin-off titles and Hollywood movies.

The developer interviews will roll out over the next year and feature insights from a selection of team members who "played a vital role" in developing the series and the Resident Evil brand itself.

The first in the series features an interview with producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who has been involved with the series (and subsequent movies) since the very first instalment. Despite acknowledging that he's "not fond of horror" himself, Kobayashi credits the secret of Resident Evil's success to a great horror atmosphere, its various puzzles and its wide variety of stories and activities."

One of the best franchises ever! i've had a lot of fun with all its games. Always wanted to play Outbreak though, but never could. That one has been the most ellusive, and worst part is that people who have played it say it's actually very great!

My personal best entry in the series is betwenn RE 1 and RE 4.But I would give RE 1 the crown, more on a technical level, since I personally feel that is more timeless, in the sense that the atmosphere and the puzzles edges out RE 4 superior gameplay

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Its a really good game, but never made it past scenario 3.That hospital with that damn imortal zombie is impossible! Not only that scared me to death(at the time), but you literally couldnt breathe, since the zombie wouldnt give you time to explore. That accursed monster!!!

That's awesome. Good stuff, now let's hope that Capcom takes what everyone has been saying for years into consideration, and makes RE7 something that the fans will thank them for. Best part is that it's been long enough since RE6 that RE7 being a good game is actually a decent possibility.

I'll give the crown to RE2. Going through the streets of Racoon City will be one of my gaming memories which will last forever. RE1-4 are really awesome games, it's a pitty that the main franchise is now pretty weak, with 5 and 6 being, imo, really bad. Though Revelations is a great game. I hope with 7 they'll follow that example.

One of my favorite franchises of all time, with some of my favorite characters.

Resident Evil 4 is the best imo, and revelations is the the most underrated.

One of my favorite franchises! Still love it and although 7 won't be even close to as good as the early ones(if 5 and 6 are any indication), I'm still looking forward to it.
Favorites...

Well facing Nemesis in 3 was pretty awesome and so was handling the chainsaw guys from 4. I enjoyed the chronicles games, they were very nice rail-on shooters. All of RE 2. Getting to know all the characters and getting attached to them (Leon, you're my boy!). Really just a great franchise that still has a lot ahead towards the future :) (RE 2 remake needs more info fast!)

Resident evil 6 of course :^) jk only played 0 so Ill go with that.
