No need.
When I go out I prefer to travel light and not be reachable and I have no interest in staying in touch with twitter or facebook.
This site is plenty waste of time already. I used to have one, only used it to take pictures. Now when I want to take pictures I take a small $100 camera and save the $80 monthly subscription fee here on smart phones.

I'd worry an emergency might occur though...

I survived fine before mobile phones were invented. Sure, there is a small chance I could have an accident out on a trail that's not frequented too often, and it would be severe enough not to be able to walk out yet not too severe I can still find and operate my phone. I'm willing to take that chance for freedom of mind on my mountain bike excursions. It's very relaxing to be off grid for a while.
