Forums - Sony Discussion - should I invest in PS Move controller now before Playstation VR drops

Honestly no.
My guess is most VR titles wont need the camra or the move controllers.
Your dual shock 4 and the VR headset will probably be enough for most games.

ALL VR titles will need the camera, it's there to make the tracking robust and eliminate drift

and you don't only need it for ducking/standing, but for leaning in on things/around the corner, both of which are possible while sitting, that's why VR without positional tracking is subpar and Sony won't offer it like that.

Which most games probably wont use.

all it needs is the head tracking, which a single sensor in the VR headpeice probably has taken care of.

Again I think its only for certain titles, where you would actually need the camra+move controllers.

That is wrong. The Camera is absolutely necessary as the camera tracks the headset and without proper headtracking there is no VR.

The PSVR will have the camera packaged inside and mandatory.

I am quite sure the Move Controllers will also be inside but not necessarily maybe they will have two  bundles.

To the OPm  do not buy move controllers now I am sure you will be able to get a good bundled deal on them and get them cheaper in the end that way.

well if its already included... okay then, basically a non issue then.

I probably gave a wrong impression by using exaggerated head movements as example, but every non-rotational tracking like very slight forward/backward aswell as translational movements needs external tracking to be robust enough to use in VR

and it's dizziness/VR sickness inducing if these subtle head movements pretty much everybody does while gaming are missing

Yes I've been looking to buy a used one or something online already.

I'm set... I have move controllers, a sharpshooter (saw a video of a VR demo somewhere where they did use it, now i have a new chance to use it), the ps4 camera. All i need now its the headset... My mind is ready...

The Camera is needed for the VR headset to track motion of the head.

Also the dualshock can be used instead of the move controllers.
This is also the reason why the light on the back controller is there to begin with.

So Camera is needed, Move not needed at all. Its a nice to have.

You might as well buy one, they're cheap as all hell right now and I can only think they'd go up in price if the demand is there because of PSVR. Even if you never use them you're getting them ad a bargain. I think I got mine for about $10.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I see in promos and in articles that Playstation VR will utilize the PS Move controllers, so my question is should I invest in these controllers now while they are cheap?  Does anyone know if they will be the same controllers or will they be some version 2.0 of the move.

shuei already confirmed that is not going to be a move 2.0.  the move controllers from the ps3 will be the same that are used with VR.

not sure if the investment is a good idea or not.  i'll bet many/most games will use the dualshock as the input device.  outside of VR move is almost non existant on ps4.   how much money do you think you can save investing now?  ..because i'll bet they are still pretty cheap after vr launches.  if nothing else it looks like sony will offer a camera/move bundle that is a decent deal.  if you don't have a ps4 camera already you might be better off getting that bundel instead.

I believe they will simply bundle the Move controllers with VR games that need them.

That's absurd. If that were the case, you would end up with dozens of move controllers.

@OP, if you want to be able to motion track your hands in VR, then investing now in a cheap second hand move controller isn't the worst idea. No matter how you cut it, there will be an increase in demand for these peripherals and the thrift market will reflect on that.

The PS Move controller would have been decent if it didn't look like a dildo.
