Forums - Sales Discussion - How does the PS4 sell so much in Japan?

I was wondering why the PS4 sells decently in Japan even though PS4 games don't dominate Japan software charts.  Usually it is 3DS, a few Wii U and Vita games that top the charts in Japan.  I was just curious how it is selling decently with rarely showing games in the top 10 charts for Japan.  Are they selling more digital games than physical?

Constant flow of decent selling games

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Weren't ten out of the top thirty games last week in Japan PS4 games? Games on PS4 tend to cast a wider net than Nintendo titles I suppose.

That and the prospect of the games to come, I'd assume.

I guess that makes sense.  They don't like Microsoft at all so it is either Wii U or PS4 for home console system in Japan.  Wii U future prospects aren't that great and PS4 won't be replaced for years.  Some reason it confused me more than it should have.

PS4 sells more total software than the Wii U. The Wii U's software sales are just focused on a few titles, which makes them more likely to appear in the top 20, while PS4 software sales are distributed over a lot more games, making it seem like PS4 software sells less.

Jrpgs.

Playstation 4's most sucessful games are from Bandai Namco, Level 5, Sega, and Square Enix, those companies support the PS4, and have a lot of good sellers on japan.

Playstation 4, have only 2.4 Millions of Install Base, the Wii U, more than 3 Millions, and the PS4, did not had a game like Final Fantasy, until now.

the 3DS have 20 Millions of Install base, and i think that the Vita, have 5 or more Millions of Install base, so Playstation 4's software are selling really well.

Part of the problem is that most of games also get released for PS3. Once they stop supporting last gen so much, like they ABRUPTLY did with the Wii, sales should increase a lot.

More than that if I remember correctly.

OP of this thread leaves me scratching my head.

Ps4 has a shit ton more titles than the Wii U. Both Japanese and western. whereas Nintendo have a few really big titles that sell well.

On top of that the ps4 has another shit ton of niche to middle selling games on the way aswell as some mega ton franchises of its own. It's a much better investment for the average Japanese gamer.
