Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo deserves more respect from you people (wolf link amiibo drama)

Sorry, it was intentionally downsized because I want to keep all potential discussion about it in one topic so it'll be easier to read and reply to comments. So I will make it soon with all the relevant info so people can assess the situation for themselves, and decide how they feel about it. As for the cost, hopefully the topic will make it a bit more clear for people what exactly they're paying for, and then they can decide how to go about it. I'll provide some different options in the topic. You can for example just buy one physical copy, and buy the rest as DLC, as you mentioned. Or get the Collectors Edition which has all three versions in one cartridge for 20% off with Amazon Prime (that would be $64). Or if you can only afford to buy two versions, knowing which ones to chose will help. Or you can even just buy one, and pirate the rest with a rom cartridge, if you really feel the price is unjustified, etc. It's up to everyone to decide what they want to do. I just want everyone to be informed about the choices they make. It should be up in the Nintendo section within a few days.

This should be a good thread, I look forward to it!

As others have said, it's a bundle, so the amiibo is not really free, and it's still locking behind some content that didn't really need to be locked.

It's still a bad practice, regardless of when you compare it to other practices, and people just don't like it.

I think I've said this before, but to kinda show how crazy amiibo has gotten in games, name me one Nintendo game after Smash Bros that does NOT support amiibo.

(cause besides Majora's Mask and XCX, I can't think of any.)

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

If it was a special edition of Batman Arkham whatever with a Batman figurine sold for $90 would people complain?

Yes, if Warner Bros Interactive were trying to sell an uprezzed PS4/XBO version of the 2009 game "Batman: Arkham Asylum" with some minor graphical tweaks and an $10 action figurine similar to this quality for 60 bucks, many people also would complain. Some fans would be fine with it and buy that remastered version, but many others would complain about the price.

Please stop trying to make Nintendo into a singled out victim with all your half-assed comparisons!

First of all, I´m not trying to make Nintendo into a singled out victim or anything, as I haven´t said anything like that, maybe you are overreacting a little bit? I just gave my opinion on something, no big deal. As if I win anything by doing that. I just find annoying that people complain about ANYTHING Nintendo does. You don´t like something? Say it, and don´t buy it. But complaining every single time there´s a new video or new information is acting like a child, and is immature and really annoying. Nintendo don´t owe anything to anyone of us, but some people act like they owed them something.

Also, maybe it´s a question of the language, but for me, saying that my comparisons are half-assed is disrespectful. You have your own opinion, so do I, if you can´t accept other people´s opinion if they differ with yours, maybe you shouldn´t be writing on a friendly online forum.

And last, the quality of that hideous Batman figurine you mention is really, really bad. You can´t be serious by comparing that to amiibo. I´m no big fan of amiibo either, but I can see they are of good quality. If you expect to win any argument with that Batman figurine, try harder the next time, I´m sure there are better examples than that.

Just because it's better than what other companies do (and by God, it is, Nintendo are far less scumbaggy here that other companies) doesn't mean it's acceptable. Ultimately it is Day 1 DLC, and worse, it's Day 1 DLC locked behind a physical figure that costs way more than the content it unlocks is worth. I appreciate the figure and therefore I find it to be completely worth it and good stuff, but if one doesn't appreciate the figure then it must just be frustrating to constantly have game content locked in this way (with no alternative way of unlocking it).

When compared to Ubisoft, EA, Activision and co it wouldn't even register on the scumbag scale. But I hold Nintendo to a much higher standard than those companies - I think they're a far superior publisher and I don't want them to slowly become like those guys.

Amiibo is meant to work across multiple titles...if this wolf amiibo shows otherwise THEN we should bitch. Past and FUTURE unreleased games is what amiibo is meant for. It's not meant to be simple dlc for a single game. Good lord I wish some of you would grow up. It's extra shit you dont have to have and it's meant to provide content over MULTIPLE titles. If all you care for is a single games additional content...then too bad.

Why does Nintendo deserve our respect? We're the ones giving them money, they rely on us to stay afloat. If anything we deserve their respect for helping them exist for as long as they have.

That's normally true, but according to Nintendo's own Amiibo Compatibility chart, the Wolf Link Amiibo is the worst compatible Amiibo ever. It's not compatible to any other released or announced Nintendo game, not even the standard stuff that almost every other Amiibo gets.

All other Amiibos announced for February and March are confirmed to be compatible to at least 8 titles, Wolf Link is compatible only to Twilight Princess HD. I would have expected at least support to Hyrule Warriors (Zelda themed) and the popular Amiibo games (Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10).

At the very least we know that Wolf Link will also be compatible with Zelda Wii U. I'd honestly be very surprised if that amiibo compatibility chart was right - I thought every single amiibo was compatibile with Hyrule Warriors and I'd be surprised if this one was any different.

And if FUTURE unreleased games and future announcements for released titles continue the trend then....bitch about it. Your problem is just because Ninty hasn't announced anything else doesn't mean it wont happen in the future. If it bothers you that much then don't buy until more is announced.
