Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Removes Infamous Drugging Scene From Western Localisation Of Fire Emblem Fates

I find stuff like that creepy. I totally get why they'd edit it. The idea that you can drug someone straight is creepy, no matter how comedic it's presented.

But...creepy stuff is fun...

Everyone here is getting mad. I dont really care to be honestly as long as it doesnt affect the story or gameplay.

Is Nintendo just trying to fool only America in thinking they're a goody-goody company?

Japan in general always feel like they have to put on the kiddy gloves when dealing with us.  I'm not surprised since there's always some group of people that try to insert their politics or virtue signal using video games.  FIrst, it was the religious people, then the conservative right and now it's the progressive left.  Once the progressive left die down I'm sure some other group of people will take up their mantle of trying to ruin things for normal people.

When it comes to Japanese games I've only heard censorship from Nintendo though.

If you can find other Japanese games that aren't from Nintendo (and not on a Nintendo system) that does randomly odd censorship please let me know.  Just lately I keep hearing it coming from Nintendo and just can't help but wonder...

Criminal Girls on the Vita was censored, though not to a crazy extent.  Just some pink cloudiness on the screen when there would normally be a butt-crack or some underboob.

"The scene involves one of the female characters, Soleil, who is attracted to women. When paired with the male protagonist, he places a magic powder in her drink without her knowledge which makes her see women as men and men as women. While the scene is intended to give Soleil the chance to gain confidence in herself by becoming stronger around other women, the implication is that she is somehow "cured" of her homosexuality, as she goes on to propose to the male lead, stating that she fell in love with the "female" version of him but now loves him as a man."

That is one CONFUSING AS SHIT!!!!!!

Can't really say anything to this. Hopefully there won't be much things changed from the Japanese version.............

Pocky Lover Boy!

I don't understand the full context of the Japanese scene, but my understanding was that it wasn't intended to be homophobic. Definitely a very oddly written scene...and one that would almost certain get the Tumblr crowd up in arms. I don't support removing this...but I don't blame Nintendo for it either.

Now if the partial nudity or ecchi content gets censored...I'll be more annoyed. Still would play either way...especially considering the censorship in Xeno definitely seemed overstated in retrospect.

Its a fictional story, with fictional characters in a fictional world. Why does anything matter at all?

Even if they all expressed disgust for homosexuals and made a drug to *save* a character, who cares?! It reflects on the people in the game, the fictional characters, not anyone else. I just don't understand what they're thinking when they do things like this.

I like this post. Fictional stories are that, fiction. Even if they hide some kind of real twisted agenda, they're still fiction. It shouldn't matter what subject it is or how the game choses to depict it.

Because, and this may be hard to believe, fiction does not exist inside a bubble. It exists within culture and business, and most of modern western culture sees giving a player the agency to borderline date-rape someone out of their natural born sexual orientaion to be extremely creepy. Condoning that kind of gameplay is bad for PR and it's bad for sales. You know what's bad for neither. Localizing it out.

This is not acceptable. Nintendo continues to censor and decide what you as a consumer gets to see. They've been doing this for decades and also region locking "please understand it takes time...". I would have thought with iwata being gone things would change....guess not.

Game probably would have been upped to M-rated with a segment about sexual themes/drug references, which could potentially affect sales.
